Times Online (UK) ^ | July 4, 2005 | Kath Gourlay

JULY 4 is a date firmly fixed in the consciousness of all Americans. Perhaps it should also be imprinted in the mind of Scots with a sense of history. Who was involved in the building of the White House? And who helped to start the American War of Independence? The surprising answer might be Scottish freemasons.

This seems to be the consensus so far from what I've heard (not just here).

I'm going to ask him about it more.

He's probably one of those old-school Mason's (he's 90) and doesn't bring it up. EVER. But he's got a really big ring and he travels all over the place for meetings.

if Washington had truly left Mt. Vernon to the Masons, they should be ashamed. It was left to rot until purchased by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, a private, non-profit organization founded in 1853 by Ann Pamela Cunningham. MVLA continues to run Mt. Vernon to this day.

What blather.

Unless you have a source that quotes Washington as saying he was only a nominal member, I choose to accept the paintings of Washington at face value.

Good info. Baptists and other Evangelicals are also warned to avoid Masonry, because of its occult connections.

One becomes a Freemason or Mason by asking a Mason for membership information. No Mason will ever or can ever solicit membership because of their code and tradition. One must want to be one in order to be one. Oftentimes, around the Christmas holidays your local Masonic Temple will have an open house where many of the private ceremonies are made public except those deemed secret. It is very spiritual, fraternal, honorable, and for those so inclined, irresistible.

I've always had a lingering fascination with the Freemasons.

I've never really looked into it but I've always been drawn to it. (as on this thread)

If you search around the 'net for radical anti-mason BS, there's plenty of it. By dragging cut and paste snippets of such garbage into FR, you're doing nothing but convincing the forum that you're an ignorant spreader of radical BS.

There's nothing I've said that isn't true. The masons
are considered a cult by the RCC and most evangelical protestant churches.

And my father was a 32nd degree, so I have some knowledge of the subject on my own.

Yep - the only president who wasn't a Mason was JFK and look what happened to him.

I'm afraid your facts are a little off.......only 14 of our presidents have been Masons.

The participant must been allucinating. The scottish ritual (4-32 degrees and "honorary" 33rd degree) doesn't have any Supreme Councils and Soveign Grand Commander.

The line about the Masons and JFK is a forty year old joke which I offered in response to the tinfoil hat alert.

you just have to ask... Masons aren't really allowed to recruit new members, it's supposed to be your idea to join.

if you don't know any Masons other than your GrandFather, then goto your local Lodge and ask for a Masonic Information Booklet and if it appeals to you, ask for an application to join.

P.S. there is no bar in any of the Lodges though you can drink there.

Why would you add that? ;-)
