Excellent!
I forgot to mention before, as you were kind enough to list some of this nice girl's accomplishments..........don't you think that her accomplishments far outshine anything the wicked Hillary has ever accomplished in her miserable life???
And........... what's with the '12 minute' thing? They didn't even give us that much time to eat in basic training back in the 60's.

It just bothers me that our country seems to promote over-indulgence in lots of things, and then we wonder why peoples in other countries, think we are materialistic and over-indulgent...From your tagline........
Everything (including hot dog eating contests) happens as God wants it to.....otherwise, things would be different.
You said it.

There's also a difference between worrying, and commenting on a website.

Maybe the right word is LAMENTING.. as you wrote in post # 5 ........"I bet all the starving people in the world, really appreciate our having these food-eating contests, and showing the whole world via satellite and media."
That's just nuts.

I guess, God wants some of us to lament, and some to call other people silly or nuts...

It's understandable and CORRECT to lament unnecessary starvation....... but, it is silly to LAMENT a hotdog eating contest on Coney Island on July 4th........ a contest that has
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the people who are starving!
Save the overwhelming sanctimony for someone else........ and go have a hot dog.

OK, Laz...... you're a man of history............http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1011545/posts?page=40 Post # 40.

So, here's a question for you about this historic and scintillating Coney Island hot dog eating contest. What's with the 12 minute thing???? Why not 10, 15 minutes , etc.? For years everyone was pondering why the Scottish decided on 18 holes in golf...... until they figured that's how long it took to drink a good bottle of whiskey comfortably.
Well, why 12 minutes in the hot dog eating contest?

When I was in high school, a friend and I had a pancake eating contest on a campout. I ate 13, he ate 17, but he threw up five minutes later, so I won by default. :-)

As someone who has spent years cooking in commercial kitchens, those marks could well be burns (she works at a Burger King I believe). You lay your arm in the wrong place (like the edge of a hot sheet pan or grill) for a fraction and... ouch!

Then you should be paying more attention. Japan has eating contests constantly, and they actually pay cash prizes as opposed to silly belts like our competitive eaters get. That's why the Japanese have been kicking our butts lately, they can be full time professional competitive eaters earning a decent living on it, you can't do that in America. the Nathan's Hotdog contest is still the most famous and generally considered the most prestigious but the land of competitive eating is Japan.

As I said, I'm sure there must be others, I just don't read or hear about them. All the time I've spent in Japan, watching local tv, I've never seen an eating contest. I've seen hundreds of programs about food, and restaurants, but never an eating contest.
