Hillary Clinton Blasts President Bush on Border Security
NewsMax ^ | 7/4/05 | Carl Limbacher

2008 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton is blasting President Bush for lax enforcement of the nation's immigration laws, saying the White House has dropped the ball on border security and put the country at risk for another major terrorist attack.

In a statement posted to her newly revamped official Senate web site, Clinton charges: "The Bush administration is failing to meet what should be the basic requirements of immigration policy: continuing our American tradition of welcoming immigrants who follow the rules and are trying to build a better life for their families, while strengthening national security in a post 9-11 world."

In a potentially potent bid to win Red State support in 2008, the former first lady is playing the role of tough cop:

"Our current immigration laws need to be reformed," she urges. "We need a better solution to the question of illegal immigration which recognizes the conflict between the need to enforce the law, and the reality that too many employers are using undocumented workers today."

Clinton says that while "this administration has failed to provide the resources to protect our borders, or a better system to keep track of entrants to this country . . . I welcome the addition of more border security."

She pins blame for the failure directly on the Oval Office, saying, "President Bush refused to provide the necessary funding in his Fiscal Year 2006 proposed budget sufficient to hire all of the border patrol agents that had been authorized."

"Fortunately," Clinton adds, "during the Senate’s debate on the budget in March of 2005, we passed an amendment to provide increased funding for border patrol agents."

Then, in a none-too-subtle dig at GOP foot-dragging on the immigration issue, Clinton says: "I hope the Republican leadership will support the maintenance of this funding, to provide the resources necessary to properly protect our borders."

"I can't believe the nerve of this b*tch!"

Uh....she could have never pressed this issue had Bush merely upheld the law.

Hillary is just getting warmed up.

Listen to her after the next terrorist attack if it is proved the terrorists and/or their terror supplies came illegally over the border.

President Bush, you're dropping (have dropped, actually) the ball on this.

Hillary Clinton last month voted for the ag bill to give all illegals amnesty that work for a year. That will only encourage more illegals to come here.

Hillary Clinton is for affirmative action for mexican anchor babies that will only encourage more to come here.

Hillary Clinton railed against real id act saying it wasn't right to punish the illegals.

Hillary Clinton is against a fence on the border.

Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton had a policy of just dropping illegals off on the other side of the border instead of inland.

"Like that will ever happen!"

Oh, it can. A teensy shift in Florida or Ohio would have given us a President Kerry. There is no downside for der Hildebeast to be saying this, and considerable upside. Many folks pulled the lever or punched the chad for Bush not so much because they supported him but because they didn't like Kerry, didn't think he was speaking to them. Illegal immigration is just the sort of topic to resonate with a lot of folks.

This can work, people. The GOP is vulnerable on this topic... and deserves to be. It's not too late, but the clock is ticking, and Hillary smells blood.

All this talk about securing the border is just Hillary's attempt to suppress the Conservative vote.

Conservatives will never vote for her, but if she can turn Republicans away from voting with this issue she and her party might just have a slim chance... very slim.

"Bush had better get his act together."

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

It's been almost 4 years since 9-11....Bush has had plenty of time.

If he hasn't done it by now, he won't do it later.

Guys, I think you are underestimating how helpful this is to those of us who want to see immigration controlled.

This will make it that much easier for a Republican candidate in 2008 to come out strongly in favor of immigration controls. It's largely the fear of losing Hispanic votes that has made our Republican candidates so cowardly on this issue. If the Dems are for tough borders as well, our candidate can support it with less fear of losing Hispanic votes.

This also means that Hillary has done her internal polling and has determined that this stance gets her more votes- she woudln't be doing it otherwise. I see this is a very promising step on many fronts, as long as it doesn't result in a President Hillary, which I can never see happening (her personal negatives are too high).

Hillary is an outright fraud.

She is the biggest double talking lying flip flopping fraud I have ever seen. She puts Kerry to shame.

Hillary is Mrs. Affirmative action and in state tuition for illegals.

Hillary Clinton last month voted for permanent amnesty for illegals that work for more than a year.

Look up Hillary Clinton's voting record she is so weak on illegal immigration she wants illegals to get permanent amnesty.

Hillary was against the Real Id act she says it isn't the illegals fault.

If you want more affirmative action for mexican anchor babies vote for hillary and you will get more ruth bader ginsbergs.

This whore will say anything for votes, just like the rest of the Rats. But had GWB taken strong measures to secure the borders, the Rats\MSM in their defining role as Hypocrites would have 'expressed outrage' that, Bush was turning America into a Nazi police state.

Your post was SO GOOD, I'm reposting it...and larger!

I think we should place life sized photos of Hillary every 6 feet along the border. This should help to stem the tide of illegal aliens. It's kinda like putting a scarecrow in a cornfield.

Hillary can't use illegal immigration to get to the White House when last month she voted to give all illegals that work for a year permanent residence and amnesty tha will only encourage more illegals to come.

Hillary is for amnesty for illegals she voted that way in the ag bill look up her voting record.

Hillary is as weak as Ted Kennedy on illegal immigration.

And all this Hillary talk is laughable have you seen the latest polls she loses by 19 points to even Mccain.

Hillary is a fraud.

You raise in interesting scenario. Bush has done nothing about border security. He was too busy making nice with Mexican President Vincente Fox. Our borders are wide open. Terrorists cross over disguised as Mexicans every day (no big deal: just shave off a beard leaving a mustache). When they sneak into San Diego or El Paso they just say, "No habla, senior." Read More Here? Nobody does a freaking thing about it. Hillary may be onto something. Bet she has even conducted private polling on the issue. If the Dims start yelling about open borders now the calls for reform may cause the GOP to split wide open.

She must have made a calculation that this would gain more votes among Republican Blacks than it would lose among green card migrant workers. What else could it be? Is she campaigning against Cheney?

I never said Hillary was telling the truth. She's an evil lying b*tch, and her presidency would be a disaster for this country.

But facts are facts. Bush has been a disaster for this country when it comes to immigration. The damage he as done with his policy of deliberate non-enforcement of our borders/immigration laws is immense.

It doesn't take too much intelligence to see that it is a valid and effective issue for Hillary to use to keep people from voting for another open borders republican.
