Hillary Clinton Blasts President Bush on Border Security
NewsMax ^ | 7/4/05 | Carl Limbacher

2008 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton is blasting President Bush for lax enforcement of the nation's immigration laws, saying the White House has dropped the ball on border security and put the country at risk for another major terrorist attack.

In a statement posted to her newly revamped official Senate web site, Clinton charges: "The Bush administration is failing to meet what should be the basic requirements of immigration policy: continuing our American tradition of welcoming immigrants who follow the rules and are trying to build a better life for their families, while strengthening national security in a post 9-11 world."

In a potentially potent bid to win Red State support in 2008, the former first lady is playing the role of tough cop:

"Our current immigration laws need to be reformed," she urges. "We need a better solution to the question of illegal immigration which recognizes the conflict between the need to enforce the law, and the reality that too many employers are using undocumented workers today."

Clinton says that while "this administration has failed to provide the resources to protect our borders, or a better system to keep track of entrants to this country . . . I welcome the addition of more border security."

She pins blame for the failure directly on the Oval Office, saying, "President Bush refused to provide the necessary funding in his Fiscal Year 2006 proposed budget sufficient to hire all of the border patrol agents that had been authorized."

"Fortunately," Clinton adds, "during the Senate’s debate on the budget in March of 2005, we passed an amendment to provide increased funding for border patrol agents."

Then, in a none-too-subtle dig at GOP foot-dragging on the immigration issue, Clinton says: "I hope the Republican leadership will support the maintenance of this funding, to provide the resources necessary to properly protect our borders."

Hellary...ever the sly opportunist! Like she REALLY cares about the borders? Seems like NY has it's own fair share of illegals Hil. Start there first in your own backyard if you are serious enough. Otherwise your phoney intentions and words mean nothing....just usual par for your (dis)course
I didn't see Slick Willie address the illegals issue nor his lib Calif buddy ex-gov Grey Davis fix by giving out driver licenses to illegals like candy. If (God forbid) Hellary gets elected she will drop the borders issues like the plague. Guaranteed!

Pretty good. Needs to be tightened up and some technical lingo thrown in as catch phrases--something like Ward Boss, Mugwump, Half Breed, The Machine. A couple of dithyrambic slogans would top it off. Could say DINO, but unfortunately she epitomizes the Democrat.

The Globalists in the Republican Party do not CARE about America as a Sovereign Nation. All they see is the dollar signs from large international companies that will line their pockets with cash. For the most part, that is what our "leadership" is made up of.

We have some that would support the devil himself if he spewed enough venom south of the border.

Without a border, what's the point of electing someone to a country that is no longer there? I have never seen so many Bush Bots surrender on an issue; what are you, our version of the french; how can it be impossible to close a border, or enforce employment laws? I don't care if you have to nuke and radiate the entire northern third of Mexico, that border must be sealed, and anyone employing illegals should be sued to recover every cent that local government has had to spend on illegals.

"Yes, you're probably right, the feeble minded among us will peel off to Hillary"

So.....it's feeble-minded to oppose Bush's immigration policy?

Republicans have to respond, but if they don't, I'll vote this single issue........if that means voting democrat, I will do so. It pains me to say it, but Republicans will lose the presidency, and Congress if they cede immigration to the Democrats, like it looks like they are doing.

This is a huge positive for Democrats:

* Law-and-order republicans will support it
* Unions will support it
* Union members, who's wages no longer have to compete with illegal immigrants will support it

The issue of immigration is more important than Republican control of any part of government.

The only problem is who do you believe? Republicans won't do anything about illegal immigration, Democrats SAY they will do something.

So who is feeble minded among us? Those who support those do wrong for america by allowing illegal invasion proceed unabated, or those who say they well do something about it.

Sounds like one must be equally feeble minded either way, but I'm interested in your opinion on the matter

Cater to the baser instincts of paranoid and bigoted Americans, and sure, she'll get some FReeper votes, those single-issue professional victims who squeal like stuck pigs at hearing Spanish being spoken in a Burger King.

OHGAWD, please, W. don't make us have to agree with hillary. Shut her mouth and shut our borders to illegals at the same time.

Nah, she wouldn't drop the issue.

She'd accelerate their entrance since it's widely understood most illegals and felons vote for Democrats.

It's as someone stated. This is more about keeping a thorny issue on the front burner in hopes it splits the GOP base so she rides to a 3 way race win. The second strategy is to convince enough people to elect McCain or someone like him so that some people will not vote.

The alternative to combat this is for those that consider this their top issue to vet and find a candidate that can win the nomination with a decent record on immigration. Then promote them. Tancredo is a one issue candidate, he isn't the answer. I do care about illegal immigration, but I don't care enough to vet potential candidates on this issue four years in advance. In the primaries I'd make note, but not now. The WOT vision and Judges are my top concern so I am actively involved in promoting people solid, and speaking against those that are not. This is what those with immigration as top concern must do. Third party, Tancredo, or campaigning against an administration that will not run '08 will do nothing to see a better immigration policy emerge on the GOP platform in '08.

The challenge to those that keep this their primary issue is to find a few people that can win, solid on more than one issue, that are credible in better enforcement of the borders. Otherwise don't complain in '08 when none run in the primary.

I think Clinton is making a smart move by raising this issue. And those of us who don't want to see her president would be wise to take this issue seriously. Telling her to shut up won't work.

Agreed. Absolutely right. We have to 1) expose her hypocrisy AND 2) pressure Congress to act...AND 3) support a candidate who will be able to do BOTH.
