"Welcome to the Neighborhood" followed three families in a comfortable cul-de-sac near Austin, Texas, given the chance to choose who moves in when a neighbor moves out of a 3,300-square-foot home on their block. Each family is white, conservative and initially interested in neighbors like them.
Instead, they have a rainbow coalition of choices: a black family; a Hispanic family; an Asian family; two gay white men who've adopted a black boy; a couple covered in tattoos and piercings; a couple who met at the woman's initiation as a witch; and a white family where mom is a stripper.
After the usual reality show contrivances -- voting a family out each week after a competition to give one family immunity -- the winning family gets the house.
The idea is to see preconceptions, even prejudices, break down as the white homeowners get to know the competitors as people instead of stereotypes.
...
The progression was telegraphed by the tattooed Sheets family, the most instantly reviled by the homeowners. Yet the Sheets quickly bonded with the neighbors when they realize they're all Republicans, and one couple came to see them as versions of themselves a decade earlier.

WOW, this is news. ABC was thinking?H
Leni
I thought Byrd was from West Virginia.
The MSM Brainwashing again with TRASH! The EU Constitution has been crushed, go rebrainwash them ABC!
According to the leftist "dribble" only whiteys can be racists.
Show seem made to order to drive that point home.
How did Hank Hill put it? Something along the lines of, "What is this country coming to when you can only hate someone if he's white?"
Not a big King of the Hill watcher, but he's right on the money.
Yes, us hetrosexual white people must be atoned for our sins of normalcy. We must be reminded daily, no, hourly, of our inherent evilness as a race embedded with Christian values. ABC is doing groundbreaking work here. Why, the village minders must be all aglow just watching us white people grovel and beg forgiveness for a millenium of transgressions against the world community.
I'm making a note on my calendar:
Make sure not to watch "Welcome to the Neighborhood."
"the white homeowners get to know the competitors as people"
WTF are they talking about?
that typical white Austinites would NOT be good-hearted, generous, and well-mannered to any new neighbor??
bump
No problem, I'd vote for the stripper.
There must have been a typo in the question. The text should have read: "What was ABC thinking with?". Those responsible for the typo will not be able to think down for at least a week.
I don't know why any heterosexual white person, particularly male, would even watch TV anymore. I gave it up in disgust a while ago. My TV now functions as a video/DVD displayer. I occasionally watch Fox News or some rerun of an old TV progam, but that's it. Why should I watch shows and commercials that continually insult me and my values, telling me that I am inferior and wrong just for being straight, white, conservative, etc.?
Yeah, white hetrosexual men are the devil incarnate as seen on TV.
Years ago, when I was a gate agent at BWI, a confrontation with an unruly passenger netted me 8 hours of sensitivity training. I thought I was the model of restraint, but the man complained and I spent two days in Saint Louis learning how to be nice in all kinds of scenarios not unlike the ones mentioned above. The one scenario that I remember the most however, was the same sex couple. In a role playing scene, one of the consultants acted like a homophobe and I had to moderate. Apparently, one of the largest amount of complaints against the airline industry at the time was treatment of gays. I found out later that TWA paid these consultants 40,000 dollars a pop for these classes. I can definitley see the boobs I was in class with writing the script for this ABC show..
You can get to know people "as people," but that doesn't mean you should accept them or their ways. The best example is that of the serial killer who ingratiates himself to a potential victim, then kills her. See BTK.
That won't be too hard. ABC canceled this show before it started airing.
