Famed detective Mark Fuhrman is calling for a grand jury probe of the Terri Schiavo case, saying there's no other way to get to the bottom of the unexplained 1990 collapse of the then-26-year-old woman.
"I want a grand jury investigation," he told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity on Tuesday, adding that Schiavo's parents also favor the move.
Fuhrman, whose book "Silent Witness" hit bookstores this week, said that if Florida prosecutors decline to convene a grand jury probe, the Justice Department should step in.
He asked, "Were Terri's civil rights violated? When I looked at this case, she never got the due process of a death row inmate."
A similar investigative book by Fuhrman, "Murder in Greenwich," is credited with forcing Connecticut prosecutors to re-examine the 1975 murder of Martha Moxley, resulting in the conviction of Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel.
In the Terri Schiavo case, Fuhrman said most of the questions revolve around her husband, Michael, and the conflicting stories he's told over the years.
"Michael Schiavo can't seem to remember anything consistently," he told Hannity, citing discrepancies in Michael's account of his reaction to his wife's collapse and the time he called paramedics.
"We have to have Michael Schiavo sit in front of a grand jury," the famed detective urged, noting that Schiavo has refused over the years to be questioned under oath in a deposition. "[A grand jury] is the only way to investigate this case."
Asked if he'd ever seen a case with so many unanswered questions, Fuhrman told Hannity: "Yeah, it's called Martha Moxley."
I would rather the DOJ check into it.
What Florida officials have the power to call a grand jury in this case? Does it depend on Piniellas County? Are any of those with the authority to call a grand jury honest, or will they prefer to toe the liberal line?
Times must really be bad for Fuhrman if he has to pimp the Terri story.
My choice for the book title would be "The Three Scams of Michael Schavo."
Scam #1: avoiding being investigated for T.S's injuries;
Scam #2: succeeding at getting malpractice judgement money;
Scam #3: getting the system to kill T.S., thereby keeping the money for himself.
Since Fuhrman is a FNC contributor I guess Hannity calls the shots.
Pathetic.
Tell that to Michael Skakel.
I would rather see Lady Justice get a grip on Michael Schiavo, who murdered his wife so he could put her away AND keep all of her money. That the unfaithful husband's chief accomplices wore judges' robes does not make them any less guilty.
Thank you. It's easy to criticize somebody when you don't have the facts. Just call a bunch of names and see if it sticks. Luckily, some of us on here know Fuhrmans part in the Skakel case.
There was plenty of evidence to convict OJ. But a jury of black women refused to convict him for murdering a white woman who "stole" a black man. Fuhrman's record as a detective is quite stellar -- and as a previous poster mentioned, wrote an investigative book that served as the prosecution's roadmap for the murder trial and conviction of Michael Skakel.
You might not like him, and that's your choice. But Fuhrman had OJ nailed dead to right.
The OJ trial was jury nullification, plain and simple.
Furhman was a marine and then was with the LA PD for many years. Working some of the roughest spots in LA. He received numerous comendations.
He's a good investigator. He did screw up by saying he never said the "N Word" but that hardly made OJ guilty.
So, lying about the use of and actual use of the N word is a cardinal sin which casts doubts on a person's competency. By those standards then, most of the blacks and a large percentage of whites are incompetent boobs because they either have used the N word or are using it.
If you're hell bent on fingering incompetence in the OJ trial, look no farther than the jury.
Mark Fuhrman is an articulate and intelligent speaker and writer. I just finished his book on Terri Schindler Schiavo, and consider it excellent. The second printing should have the autopsy results analyzed by Fuhrman.
Fox Cable has gotten pretty bad lately. When I scan with my TIVO device, Mark Fuhrman is the one that keeps my interest. O'Reilly usually is good for 5 minutes max; Hannity/Colmes is good for 5-7 minutes viewing; Greta has been fair reporting from Aruba, confronting police chief. Her show deserves about 7 minutes using TIVO.
You're right on all points. I think Fuhrman has gone a long way to restore his reputation with these books he's written.
He does a good job with the timeline in the Terri Schiavo book. He writes about the inconsistencies in Michael's accounts of Terri's collapse, like Michael saying he cradled Terri in his arms after he found her on the floor, but Bobby, Terri's brother, saying that when he showed up Terri was face down on the floor. Did Michael pick Terri up and then put her back down on her face?
One inconsistency by itself is not anything to wonder at but when you have a bunch of them it's worth looking at. That's what Fuhrhman did with his book and he did a good job.
Whoever investigates this case must ensure we never again see any judge order the murder of an innocent human being, in the face of opposition from the President, Governor, and Congress.
Great idea.
Lets add Scam #4: Destroying the Evidence
Pathetic, righto ... that Florida allows two murderers to waltz as free men is pathetic! Greer and Schiavo.
