Critics Call Radio Hosts' Trip Propaganda Mission

Sunday, July 03, 2005 By Kelley Beaucar Vlahos

WASHINGTON — A contingent of conservatives talk radio hosts is headed to Iraq this month on a mission to report "the truth" about the war: American troops are winning, despite headlines to the contrary.

The "Truth Tour" has been pulled together by the conservative Web cast radio group Rightalk.com and Move America Forward, a non-profit conservative group backed by a Republican-linked public relations firm in California.

"The reason why we are doing it is we are sick and tired of seeing and hearing headlines by the mainstream media about our defeat in Iraq," Melanie Morgan, a talk radio host (search) for KSFO Radio in San Francisco and co-chair of Move America Forward, said.

Morgan said the media is "imposing a Vietnam template on this war."

"This is not Vietnam," she said. "War is war, and it's dangerous, and the killing is taking place all of the time. At the same time, where there is danger, there is success and there is a mainstream media that is determined to shut out that success."

She said the group is going to Iraq to support American troops, who see a disconnection with what they experience and what's being reported in the United States. She said the incongruence is leading to "morale problems."

But critics, including independent journalists who have reported from Iraq, say the trip is a propaganda mission for the U.S. military and the Bush administration and cannot be considered "journalism" by any standards.

"This is the most pathetic thing I've heard in a long time. They should be ashamed of themselves," Peter Beinart, editor of left-leaning The New Republic magazine, said.

Yes, Beinart, it's just awful that radio personalities are going over to Iraq to support the troops. Sheesh. I just can't get over how far down the road to perdition we've gone when horses posteriors like Beinart can denigrate the efforts of patriotic Americans, and there are no repercussions. Why do these slimy b@#tards ( Beinart, etal) get away with it?

"...the liberals are afraid the public will find out what they've been saying was NOT THE TRUTH!....." Post #96

That is EXACTLY right!!!

We have a perfect example of this in Gitmo. The continual barrage of disparaging remarks about Gitmo has just completely died out after the congressional delegation made its visit and PROVED THEM ALL WRONG!!!

None of them had ever been there, and they just relied on BS from lying detainees, non-credible orgs like Amnesty International, et al, and their own biased anti-American attitudes to compose their many columns and articles about how Gitmo was a dark stain on America's reputation world-wide, etc.

Know why that was? Because that's what they wrote! The truth was 180 degrees from that.

And, as CyberAnt says, they're afraid of being found out AGAIN.....like CBS, Newsweek, CNN.......and they still claim that Bush is a liar.

A group of radio journalists will not be able to turn things around 180 degrees, but won't a true report about the good things be a breath of fresh air?

Oh, you gotta love jerks like this. Remember, we're just the stupid little people without our own eyes and ears.

So somebody's going to come over here and report the truth about what is happening here? They're going to talk about the progress and the multitude of positive developments?

I'm feeling faint...

"They have no idea what journalism is, and to pretend they are journalists is laughable," Beinart said. "You do not achieve victory by not facing reality."

Spoken from someone who praised Dan Rather for that wonderful fake but true story about the President.

Putting oneself in physical danger is not a prerequisite to supporting our troops and our war effort.

That's exactly why our troops are so special and to be given the utmost respect. They're doing something that not everyone can or will.

And then return and proclaim that Gitmo has "improved." What low lives these people are.

And .. just from perusing the statements .. it sounds a lot like sour grapes to me. My first thought was .. the liberals are afraid the public will find out what they've been saying was NOT THE TRUTH. Poor babies .. that's what happens when you are willing to lie.

If the liberal talk show hosts are having their own Temper Tantrum 2 about this trip, why don't they organize a trip for themselves? Mind you, they do risked being Tomatoed by the US soldiers and most Iraqi citizens on the ground, though.

The media never reported that Michael Moore made a major documentary about Iraq and never even visited the country.

You want to talk about PROPAGANDA???

What a miserable failure

Originally we planned to go, but were concerned about getting all the other shows produced and on the air during that time.

Sean hasn't gone overseas yet, but this coming Friday July 8th he is holding his third annual Freedom Concert at Six Flags in Jackson, NJ.

----------------------------------------------

Here's the crux of the problem many of us have with Hannity. His act relies on his "You're a Great American" flag waving, chest thumping super-patriotism...and his condemnation of anyone on the left as being anti-American....but he never puts any skin in the game. Say what you will about franklin and some of his cronies, at least they've been there. That may be all there is to respect about them but it's no small thing.

Hannity's annual concert is a good thing but he benefits as well and gets to talk himself up about it for weeks.

Besides, your statement that he hasn't gone overseas "yet" indicates that you know of some plan that he has to do so, do you? What is he waiting for? The war is in its fourth year.

With both his daily radio and television shows, it makes very difficult for Hannity to take a week or two off to go to the Middle East.

I think a few here should cut him some slack.

Well .. our soldiers are more well-manered than the liberals - I believe the liberals would be greeted with stone cold silence.
