The 51-year-old Luttig is considered a solid conservative choice. The Texas native worked in the Justice Department during the first Bush administration and has served on the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Va. Luttig helped take down Anita Hill. Luttig a potential pick for Supreme Court. Profile of Michael J. Luttig. Appeals Court Judge Rising Star Among Conservatives. Another Profile of Michael J. Luttig. The self-described legal nerd wrote the 1999 4th Circuit decision that struck down a key provision of 1994 Violence Against Women Act. The Supreme Court agreed on a 5-4 vote that Congress overstepped its bounds in giving rape victims the right to sue their attackers for monetary damages. He is the son of John Luttig, the Texas man who was shot to death by Napoleon Beazley during a carjacking in 1994. When the case reached the Supreme Court, Luttig's ties to the nation's highest bench caused three of the sitting justices to recuse themselves. |

He's already threatened to threaten any potential nominee.
"Ted Kennedy called for Rumsfeld's resignation. This is interesting. This marks the first time Kennedy has ever come out against anything with rum in it." --Conan O'Brien
O'Connor was the Goldwater choice for the court. Jerry Falwell and Howard Phillips warned that she was no conservative. Goldwater said that Reverend Falwell needed a "good swift kick in the ___." Falwell and Phillips were right, and Goldwater was wrong!
Ted Kennedy will drink this.
Well one thing for sure we know how he will stand on POS juvenile car jackers. Now if Kennedy, Stevens, Souter, Ginsburg and Breyer would hurry up and choke on their food we can clean out the prisons of some juvenile scum.
Didn't you hear? Ted is holding out for some moonshine.
"Apparently, some punk kids went nuts and tipped over Ted Kennedy" --David Letterman, on the New England Patriots' Super Bowl parade
LOL!!
I don't know the whole story. I was not even born yet. But I read somewhere that Goldwater became less and less conservative as he aged?
You should bttt a couple times when people get back to work on Tuesday, after the 4th of July holiday weekend.
Yes I can see that. I can also see all the liberals on the court hooked up to life support refusing to step down, while having their aids write all their opinions. Hmmmm.........wonder if they are doing that now. LOL
Yep, it's becoming an increasing problem. That's why I think we should change the rules (or amend the constitution) where judges will have a strict 20 years term. That's it.
It wasn't supposed to be this way in the past, and Supreme Court judges had other responsiblities and usually they retired by the time they were 66.
That was a couple of generations ago.
"liberals worst nightmare"
GOOD! OVER HERE MR. PRESIDENT .. THIS IS THE GUY WE WANT.
Otherwise we want Janice Rogers Brown.
Otherwise we want Janice Rogers Brown.
How about both? Chief Justice Rehnquist will step down next.
Yea, some think that Goldwater's creeping liberalism was a result of a lack of religious faith. His funeral in 1998 was mostly devoid of religious symbols. Others think it was a product of his two liberal wives, the first of whom, Peggy of Muncie, IN, was on the Planned Parenthood board. Others thought it was a possibly homosexual relative. Others think it was mere western iconoclasm. He turned out also to be a big booster of Nelson Rockefeller for vice president and Ford for President in 1976.
Did you see who's campaigning with John Kerry now? Ted Kennedy! Can you imagine those two giant heads coming down the street together? It's gonna look like a Macy's Day parade." Jay Leno
Good idea!
It's Bring Your Daughter to Work Day. This tradition began about 25 years ago down in Washington, D.C. by a quick-thinking Ted Kennedy who was spotted leaving his office with an 18-year-old." David Letterman
I didn't realize Goldwater had a creeping liberalism.
You learn new stuff every day I guess.
"both"
Works for me!
