Lets Support Michael J. Luttig! (Supreme Court)
Posted on 07/02/2005 5:36:59 PM PDT by ConservativeMan55

The 51-year-old Luttig is considered a solid conservative choice. The Texas native worked in the Justice Department during the first Bush administration and has served on the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Va.
Luttig helped take down Anita Hill.
Luttig a potential pick for Supreme Court.

Another Profile of Michael J. Luttig.
The self-described legal nerd wrote the 1999 4th Circuit decision that struck down a key provision of 1994 Violence Against Women Act. The Supreme Court agreed on a 5-4 vote that Congress overstepped its bounds in giving rape victims the right to sue their attackers for monetary damages.
He is the son of John Luttig, the Texas man who was shot to death by Napoleon Beazley during a carjacking in 1994. When the case reached the Supreme Court, Luttig's ties to the nation's highest bench caused three of the sitting justices to recuse themselves.

And to think this is the picture that makes the people of MA most proud. They have come a long way DOWN since the days of Governor Coolidge.

Goldwater was of half Jewish descent, but I think he was at once time an Episcopalian. He was never "Jewish" by faith. Toward the end of his career, he seemed more like a worshipper of Nature.

A non-ideolgoue, pragmatic conservative will make the cut. Oh, please. That's just double-speak for a limp wristed, linguini spined RINO that capitulates to the left if a liberal just looks at him crosseyed.
What we need is a pit figher, someone who will go balls-to-the-wall to defend the Constitution.

Michael Luttig would be an awesome choice. He is a brilliant legal mind. However, this may not be the right time to appoint him.
William Rehnquest will be stepping down before long. When that happens, the logical thing to do is elevate Antonin Scalia to Chief Justice and Luttig to succeed Scalia as Associate Justice. But with O'Conner retiring, someone with less of a paper trail would be a better choice, given the political realities.

If he was still a senator in Arizona today, he would be viewed as the same kind of RINO that Sen. Mini-me McVain is today.

Maybe I should make one!Yes, you should. You have a few people on this thread who wants to be on your list. (including me)

I like Janice Rogers Brown!
Yes, Yes and more yes!
That would be the dim's senator's worst nightmare, because of who she is, and they finally confirmed her!!!

(If I spelled her name correctly) That way, Democrats cannot turn her down because she is a black woman. Or they will look bad doing so and more blacks would start to defect to the Republican Party.
I'm viewing a scenario where Michael Steele (He is the black Lt. Governor who helped Ehrlich became Governor in MD) wins the 2006 Senate race in MD and that could make inroads into the black community and help Republicans to capture 25% of the black vote in 2008 for the Presidency.

Actually, my choice for the SCOTUS would be Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY). Now, now, before you spray the beverage of your choice through your nose and onto your screen or tangle your fingers in haste to respond to my recommendation, hear me out:
1. MOVEONpac.org, already has commercials claiming President Bush will be choosing an extreme candidate for the court. This is in their Schaivo commercial, it would provide some serious egg on their collective faces.
2. The Democrats would have to sit on their hands and let her pass, while the Republicans would be forced to put her feet to the fire and actually earn their partisan pay. When she is voted down, the Democrats will be forced into a position of NOT being able to filibuster an ultra-conservative follow-up nominee.
3. The vetting and hearing process for SCOTUS nominee Clinton would make her damage goods for her Senate campaign and presidential campaign. It would be a hat trick if it caused her to resign her Senate seat.
I call it Win/Win/Win.

Me too. It seems like liberals are easy on Rehnquist. I dunno why. They are easy on Rehnquist simply because he is the Chief Justice, and were they to utterly trash him, they would be doing themselves untold damage, as the Supreme Court is both their preferred, and at the moment only vehicle for getting their agenda thru... Any open assault on the Chief Justice would be detrimental to their strategies, so while they despise him as a person, as they do all conservatives, they will not openly assail him...

Any negative/controversial press on him? Would he have a chance of getting through? He's considered the most conservative judge on the fourth circuit court of appeals so of course there would be an enormous outcry. But if the vote went along party lines, or even if Arlen Spectacle and a few other RINOs let us down but we picked up a couple southern Dems he would still make it.
He would be one of my top picks. Clerked for Scalia, I think.

They'd NEVER make her go through anything like a vetting and you need help; massive amounts of it.
