French Woman to Ordain Herself a Catholic Priest, Facing Automatic Excommunication
The Associated Press
LYON, France Jul 2, 2005 A French woman defied a threat of excommunication by the Roman Catholic Church and held a ceremony proclaiming herself a priest on Saturday.
In a small ceremony on a boat, Genevieve Beney was joined by other women from around the world who have taken similar dramatic action to draw attention to the church's policy against women priests.
"This is not a rupture with the Roman Catholic Church," Beney said in a statement read aloud before she boarded the boat.. The Vatican has not commented on the case but has made clear it sees no room for debate about opening up the priesthood to women. The Church says Jesus chose men to be his apostles and that the practice of ordaining only men must stand.

Finn, Siobhan's son
Well, listen up, folks-- I hereby ordain myself Queen of the World and Empress of the Milky Way! From henceforth, you may address me as your Imperial Majesty.
Lisa: I believe they prefer to be called "conjoined twins".
Hibbert: And Hillbillies prefer to be called "sons of the soil". But it ain't gonna happen.
-- "Treehouse of Horror VII"
Well, your Imperial Majesty, I ordain myself Emperor. Now that is done, I'll be in the royal suite tonight at 8pm in expectation of my due.......
What you mean it's not that easy? Darn, my wife says the same thing. /wry grin
Perfect analogy! Thank you!
That's exactly what Peter III said to Catherine, and you know what happened to him...
So behave yourself. ;P
There was a woman from France,
Who took an unusual stance.
She said "I'm a priest",
I think men are beasts.
From now on I wear only pants.
There once was a woman from Paris,
Who called herself "Father the Fairest"
But though it seems quizzical,
She (alas) failed the physical
And now she's a little embarrassed.
There was a young lady from Lyon,
Canon law, she just wasn't buyin'
To the world she proclaimed,
"I've just self-ordained"
Til the Pope said "This just ain't flyin'".
In a small ceremony on a boat,
Ms. Beney did something of note.
She told the reporters
I've got Holy Orders,
That ought to get the Pope's goat.
(Well, they can't all be jewels!)
A bishop --- I just want to be it,
But a hierarchy, I'll just have to flee it!
God the Mother? the Father?
Or really I'd rather
Just worship this wonderful She-It.
