French Woman to Ordain Herself a Catholic Priest, Facing Automatic Excommunication
The Associated Press
LYON, France Jul 2, 2005 A French woman defied a threat of excommunication by the Roman Catholic Church and held a ceremony proclaiming herself a priest on Saturday.
In a small ceremony on a boat, Genevieve Beney was joined by other women from around the world who have taken similar dramatic action to draw attention to the church's policy against women priests.
"This is not a rupture with the Roman Catholic Church," Beney said in a statement read aloud before she boarded the boat.. The Vatican has not commented on the case but has made clear it sees no room for debate about opening up the priesthood to women. The Church says Jesus chose men to be his apostles and that the practice of ordaining only men must stand.

If she wants to be a priest that badly, can't she just join the Unitarians or the UCC?

Beney was due to be proclaimed a priest in a small ceremony on board the boat, with automatic excommunication from the Roman Catholic Church to follow. There are no self ordained offices in the true church. The fact that she has ordained herself means that she is not a member of the true church or a priest.

Why is it always the (a-hem...) less desirable women, IMHO, who seem to always be pulling these things off? Yes I know, we shouldn't judge people by how they look, but I can't think of a single female pastor or so-called priest or liber pundit for that matter (unless you are into Susan Estrogen) that I would classify as physically attractive.

(Long, deep, resigned sigh)
If this chick don't like the way things are done in the Catholic church, wants to protest, why won't she do as Henry VIII did, go and form her own church and leave ours alone? She is not validly ordained, nothing she does will have any power to bind and loose in heaven.
