The Rove Factor? Time magazine talked to Bush's guru for Plame story.
By Michael Isikoff Newsweek July 11 issue - Its legal appeals exhausted, Time magazine agreed last week to turn over reporter Matthew Cooper's e-mails and computer notes to a special prosecutor investigating the leak of an undercover CIA agent's identity. The case has been the subject of press controversy for two years. Saying "we are not above the law," Time Inc. Editor in Chief Norman Pearlstine decided to comply with a grand-jury subpoena to turn over documents related to the leak. But Cooper (and a New York Times reporter, Judith Miller) is still refusing to testify and faces jail this week.
At issue is the story of a CIA-sponsored trip taken by former ambassador (and White House critic) Joseph Wilson to investigate reports that Iraq was seeking to buy uranium from the African country of Niger. "Some government officials have noted to Time in interviews... that Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, is a CIA official who monitors the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction," said Cooper's July 2003 Time online article.
Now the story may be about to take another turn. The e-mails surrendered by Time Inc., which are largely between Cooper and his editors, show that one of Cooper's sources was White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove, according to two lawyers who asked not to be identified because they are representing witnesses sympathetic to the White House. Cooper and a Time spokeswoman declined to comment. But in an interview with NEWSWEEK, Rove's lawyer, Robert Luskin, confirmed that Rove had been interviewed by Cooper for the article. It is unclear, however, what passed between Cooper and Rove.

hmmmmm -- well it looks like Rove is involved somehow. There will be many twists to this story.
What garbage. It has already been well established on other threads that Rove did nothing wrong. Charaacter assasination, pure and simple. I hope the White House doesn't knuckle under and fights this tooth and nail. And what about those two lawyers leaking information about their clients? They should be investigated and disbarred.
Well, this is the most detail so far, but there's nothing there that says "Rove was the source of the leak".
Not that it can be called a leak, really, but you know.
Jeez, the liberal media will clutch at ANYTHING that they can try to pin on Karl Rove.
You can bet every dollar you have that if Karl Rove was the source, Cooper, Miller, and every liberal media entity would be screaming it from the rooftops.
The REAL leaker is a Dem, you can guarantee it. Patrick Leaky?
My understanding is that Plame was once a covert agent but since her marriage became an above the board agent with a staff job. It's not criminal to speak of a "known" CIA employee.
This appears to absolve Rove of any wrong doing.
I would be checking their notes for being word-processed instead of typewritten, for I would not consider them to be above forgery.
so much for Lawrence O'Donnell "ITS ROVE!!!" scoop.
I'm not sure why this is such a big deal. Rove has waived any confidentiality and said that reporters can reveal anything that was said between himself and them. It's not exactly an 'aha' moment when the reporters turn over their notes, at least as regards Rove, since he's said they could for a while now.
This is the so-called "IT'S ROVE" scoop by Newsweek O'Donnell was talking about?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! This article practically absolves him.
Someone should post this at the DUmp.
Well, we do have to consider the source.
Next he'll be saying Rove flushed the notes down a toilet.
Michael Isikoff...the same fellow that wrote the "abuse of Koran" stories for Newsweak, resulting in, what was it, 18 deaths? And then had to retract the story....
There are two very liberal writers willing to go to jail to protect someone - and I doubt they're doing it to protect Karl Rove!
Relax. Rove always admitted to providing information to reporters AFTER the Novak story. There is nothing knew here, except "reporters" like Iskoff (who is guilty of publishing false stories before to attempt to make a name for himself) trying to make something out of nothing. I like the way Iskoff quotes unnamed lawyers who are sympathtic to the White House, however, they have no probably spreading rumors. This will be another Rove conspiracy story that backfires on the libs.
Yes, it does. The media will, however, attempt to make something of it, just like they've done with everything else.
Beep beep!
