LIVE 8 -Live Thread
MTV/VH1 | 7-2-05 | my favorite headache

Posted on 07/02/2005 9:39:24 AM PDT by My Favorite Headache

Well...we are 37 minutes into the supposed "global concert of a lifetime" and MTV has managed to show 12 minutes of commercials for reality programming, interrupted 3 performances, and have shown a highlights package from the UK with the biggest names of the day already performing.

Yep. MTV has found a way to not show music on a day where music is all around them. So away with the Live 8 thread....

I may think it may think Live8 is a bit of a farce on one level... on another.... I completely concur with it.... if you are not part of the solution ...... you are part of the problem... as my momma would always say....

Alicia Keys was raised to speak proper English and when she became "a star" she immediately began to speak with a pseudo-black accent which she has worked on for a couple years now. Stunning.

And she just butchered the 30s classic "For All We Know" (J.Fred Coots/Sam Lewis.) I wish these kids would give a listen to Ella or Frank or someone and learn how to sing.

Well, at least she did try to do a classic, instead of this self-penned crap by the singer-songwriters that comprise albums now so they can cash in on the songwriter mechanical royalties.

Blackmore formed Rainbow with Roger Glover. Lasted off and on with different line-ups from '76-'99.

Met a girl named Candice Night and created Blackmore's Night. A blend of renaissance folk and light rock. I like it since I am into Classical music, especially Baroque.

I'm not interested much in the theatricals. These guys could set up in someone's basement and broadcast it all over the world. I would still be impressed just to see Roger Waters back with Gilmour, Wright and Mason.

They're breaking out the snow shovels in Hell right now.

I ran into one of their albums completely by accident on iTunes. I really like the sound and will probably enjoy listening to most of their music.

If we redifine "poverty", it just might! Why is this called Live 8 anyway???

Thanks for sharing that. It sounds like Neil Peart is a little more than just one of the greatest rock drummers ever.

I'd rather she leave the classics alone and butcher some "original" puke hip-slop. Maybe someone will get exposed to the original and see what real music is.

Maybe they should have sung this song. LOL

RUSH

Anthem

Know your place in life is where you want to be,
Don't let them tell you that you owe it all to me.
Keep on looking forward; no use in looking 'round;
Hold your head above the ground and they won't bring you down.

Anthem of the heart and anthem of the mind
A funeral dirge for eyes gone blind
We marvel after those who sought
The wonders of the world, wonders of the world,
Wonders of the world they wrought.

Live for yourself -- there's no one else
More worth living for
Begging hands and bleeding hearts will only cry out for more

Well, I know they've always told you
Selfishness was wrong
Yet it was for me, not you, I came to write this song

Chorus

I'm not good a judging crowds. I can't see where there was a million people when I was there. Also, public transportation did not seem overly crowded.

One of the funniest things was a couple of old, old hippies pushing for repeal of marijuana laws. Twentysomethings (with shorth hair) were coming up up to them and asking to get their pictures taken with them.

The other "Rush" (as in 'maharushie' Limbaugh) has also pointed out the futility of such endeavors but notes how it's exactly how liberals work - they desire to feel good about things not necessarily address the problem at its root (which usually always involves a lack of freedom at the core of the problem, in this case repressive regimes ruling the continent of Africa)

Yeah, but I don't think the kids cared about the cause. I think they just wanted to get their pix with a couple of hippies.
