If it isn't Judge Brown...
How about an off-the-wall choice
How about Judge Alex Kozinski, a Reagan appointee on the 9th circuit...
Finally! Let's replace her with Jeff Sessions or Janice Rogers Brown. I guess Brown since O'Conner was alledgedly a woman.
"who will faithfully interpret the Constitution and laws of our country".
Well there's the crux of the problem right there. "Interpret"........Please, how about just plain "Uphold"? Isn't that what the justices are supposed to do? Interpret my a**!
You see, it doesn't matter who is in charge in this country anymore. This is no longer a nation of liberty. Period.
J. Michael Luttig.
One of the most tiresome trends of the last 30 years is this practice of giving people "bonus points" for their gender or race.
If Bush is determined to score bonus points to help him in a fantasy re-election that he will never have to face, he should appoint Emilio Garza. A conservative Latino.
Remember when Bush named Cheney as his running mate? A lot of the talking heads were thinking that Bush would go for bonus points by naming Colin Powell. But by naming the most competant person he could find, Bush earned kudos from the people who matter the most: voters.
I thought she dissented on that case.
Yes she was on the right side of that with Renquist, Thomas, and Scalia
Only Emilio Garza.
Although, since the liberals have changed the definition of "hispanic" to include Congressman Dennis Cardozo of Modesto (even though he has no hispanic blood in him, only Portuguese), that may make Antonin Scalia the first "hispanic" on the court since his last name ends in a "hispanic-sounding" vowel.
Well, then he'd be the second "hispanic" after the Portuguese-descended Benjamin Cardozo. (whom the liberals have also given "honorary hispanic status" to).
"this court"!
All together now can you say "Integrity!"Integrity! Integrity!" What integrity??
The last time I paid any attention to what these clowns were about they looked and acted like the "Hee Haw" gang!
The same old same old bench legislating mindset they have mandated unto themselves without any vestige of constitutional authority!
"This court" is a joke and has been for many, many years and without abatement will continue to bring the house down(around this Nation's ears)!
LOL. someone's going to post a photo, I can feel it.

Be fair... While many of her decisions were, to put it mildly, controversial, she voted on the "right" (dissenting) side on the propertty rights debacle, and *that* may have been what prompted her to finally retire...

I hope you are right.
I have been advocating for months for Estrada on the court....as a replacement for Scalia or Thomas when they get bumped up for Chief.
Replacing O'Connor with Estrada would be better yet!
Hello? President Bush. This is Warren Rudman calling. I have the perfect nominee . . . nobody knows anything about him -- the perfect SCOTUS appointment.
I will never forget. If the republicans screw this one up . . .
May the games begin.
She'd be a great choice. And since she's already been confirmed, how could she now be designated as 'out of the mainstream' and represent an 'extraordinary circumstance'?
Won't be a white male. That shouldn't matter, but it does.
Won't be Janice Rogers Brown. Her turn may come in a year or two.
Won't be Gonzales. Bush would rather have a fight with Democrats than with his base.
That leaves the most likely choices as ... Garza and Estrada. My guess would be Garza.
He would be another excellent choice. His name was in my mind this morning too.
