I like that post of yours about 'good enough' not being GOOD ENOUGH. I am just certain that POTUS will go for the gold. He's not bowing to the rats or compromising. He's going to make damn sure his choices are polar opposites of Souter.

Wow! How did you narrow that down? I love that photo of him as a small boy!

Dennis Prager says that the North saved the United States in the 19th century and the South is saving the United States in the 20/21st centuries--how true. Maybe it will save our Supreme Court.

I don't suppose W has time for F/R :) Too bad.

The Senate will confirm him/her, even if it requires the nuclear option. Graham and DeWine tasted all they wanted of anger from the Republican base after their "Save the Republic" agreement.

The seven Republicans who enabled the 'Rats to kill at least two of the President's nominees via filibuster need to feel the heat. Nominate Jeff Sessions, and those seven loozers will have to choose between going along with the nucular option or making thenselves personal enemies of Jeff Sessions and the other 48 Senators. Nuke Comity!

"I said Cajungirl was ignorant"

And I think that's calling someone a name. You weren't trying to debate her, you her trying to make her feel inferior. I don't actually hate you, that's just a figure of speech. I will try to avoid calling names and simply say that I believe it was not appropriate for you to jump on Cajungirl for not knowing to what you were referring. I assume you'll disagree. Have a pleasant day.

"and prestige"

I think you might be underplaying the importance of that. None of these people got where they are without some serious ego.

nobody in the country cares right now. It's July 4 weekend.

Unfortunately, I don't think I've ever seen a more ironic, more true or more tragic statement all rolled into one. I don't know whether to congratulate you or weep for the nation.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I kept up with the posts, and it should have been obvious that the 1973 reference was to R v. W.

I don't think that a dem is going to shepherd a republican president's judicial nomination, do you ?

Not at all. That's why I wondered who the Californian Brown (although an Alabama native) would have as her "rabbi". This is the first time I had heard the term. I am not sure this shepherd is the state Senator or someone else?

If the nominee needs a hometown Senator on their side to help the nomination process go smoother than Brown is out.

Fine. Maybe they wont. But MAKE THEM FILIBUSTER Janice Brown, after Voting her to the 2nd Circuit as part of a deal in which they all but agreed she was not Extreme.

Exactly. If they filibuster, they have gone back on their deal, not to mention that we score huge if they (1) filibuster a SCOTUS pick, a far cry from just an Appellate Judge in the public's mind, (2) filibuster a black woman who is extremely well-qualified. They have just confirmed her, and have little rationale to block her now.

If they do it, we use the constitutional rule change to put her up on the justifictaion they broke the deal. Then we nominate another huge conservative and don't have to deal with the filibuster. If they don't, we have Janice Rogers Brown on the SCOTUS, plus they can't say the next nominee is "extreme circumstances", because they won't be any more originalist or conservative the JRB. They broke the deal again, we eliminate the filibuster. A win-win for conservatives.

McCain on Fox saying he thinks "the agreement" will HOLD and there won't be a filibuster!

Another example of why McLame will NEVER be President

He is a COMPLETE FOOL!!

I didn't mean it that way. There's nothing wrong with celebrating July 4 and forgetting about politics for now. We only focus on this nomination today because we are junkies.

Once the nomination is made, their will be LOTS of attention on the confirmation battle. There was for both Thomas and Bork. People DO care, but they aren't always paying attention when nothing is going on.

O'Connor was an Arizona state senator?

Okay, I demand an official ban be placed on anyone from Arizona being considered for any high office. They seem to have a "Maverick" complex.

"Ah. You're in the People's Republic of Davis. My ex graduated from that fine institution. Depending on your major, you're probably not as alone as you think!"

Ag Econ. And yes, there are some people to the right of Che Guevara in town but they're not noisy about it!

By the way, I have four GVgirls (assuming GV is Grass Valley) in my family, mother, sister and two nieces.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

I can think of many among the 43 who claimed this as their only qualification!
