Congress assails domain ruling (Pelosi compares court to God)
The Washington Times ^ | 1 July 05 | Charles Hurt

Congress lashed out at the Supreme Court yesterday for expanding government powers of eminent domain and vowed to ban any federal funds for state and local governments that employ the new authority.

***snip***

In response, a bipartisan group of senators and House members joined yesterday in introducing legislation that will withhold federal funding from any state or local government that tries to use those expanded powers.

"The Supreme Court voted last week to undo private property rights and to empower governments to kick people out of their homes and give them to someone else because they feel like it," said House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, Texas Republican. "No court that denies property rights will long respect and recognize other basic human rights."

The decision was particularly explosive amid speculation that one or more Supreme Court justices may retire in coming weeks. Republicans who already view the Supreme Court as power-hungry said the decision will rally Americans behind their effort to make the court more conservative.

"The only silver lining to the cloud of this decision is the possibility that this time the court has finally gone too far," Mr. DeLay said.

***snip***

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, said she "would oppose any legislation that says that we would withhold funds for the enforcement of any decision of the Supreme Court, no matter how opposed I am to that decision."

She then added: "And I'm not saying that I'm opposed to this decision."

Arguing that Congress has no business interfering with the ruling unless it wants to amend the Constitution, Mrs. Pelosi said: "This is almost as if God has spoken."

When the David Souters, the Nancy Pelosi's and the Babs Boxers of this world were kids, they probably played all their games with rules subject to change whenever they felt like it: "Daddy, let's make me landing on Boardwalk mean that you pay me!" And of course, they never grew up. They still think you can make the rules in life change on a whim, and all is going to be just dandy...

I am confused, is she actually picking a side on this. This would be funny if it were not so sad. What kind of idiot would vote for an idiot like pelosi. This is the democrat leader? Unbelievable.

The next time Sad Freaksicko makes noises about seceeding, perhaps Dubya should tell them: "Okay, bye. Don't let the door hit ya on the way out."

My concern with a declining population is that when that cesspool finally drops off the continental shelf into the Pacific Ocean fewer Pelosi types will go with it.

How about seizing Bab's oceanfront estate in Malibu and putting up a few thousand timeshare units?

You're right. Her place is just begging to be bulldozed. I would put up a gun store, a Wal Mart, and a printing press for books by Ann Coulter.

Look into how the new Texas Rangers stadium was built when Bush Jr. owned the team. If he came out against the ruling, the media would (rightly) call him a hypocrite.

Bush can't say anything about it, but I suspect he supports the ruling.

May I suggest a KOA for the camper and RV types that WalMart can't accomodate?

It doesn't surprise me to see minority "leaders" like Maxine Waters on the anti-New London bandwagon.

I'm sure that this decision strikes a chord with minorities who can remember a time in the South when racist state governments screwed around with their right to become property owners, as well as voters, etc.

If Pelosi does not play this right this is just one more issue (gay marriage, vouchers, faith based initatives, abortion, etc.) where she will find herself on the opposite side of the fence from the minorities she claims to support.

Someone also needs to ask Pelosi if God was speaking when SCOTUS handed down their decision in Bush v. Gore. Or How about the Dale case involving gay adult leaders in the Boy Scouts?

One can only acquire the Pelosi intellect if one indulges oneself in the sex and drug obsessed culture that California advertises. You seem to be a person unlikely to succumb to such a foolhardy lifestyle; so sit back, unload your weapon, pop a Miller Lite and celebrate sanity.

Absolutely. The RVs could also empty their septic tanks into Bab's old swimming pool.

Sorry Babs---but the RV owners will pay more in taxes (liberals don't pay taxes, dontchaknow), so your property must be seized.

Do you think for one second those featherheads in Bella Pelosi's district even have a sense of what the world is all about? She could proclaim allegiance to UBL and be re-elected in a landslide. The crux of the issue is what happened to the DNA of folks out there? Where was the genetic mutation started and why?

Pelosi doesn't need to cater to her constituents. As you said, she could do anything and still be re-elected.

As a leader of her party she needs to be worried about separating herself and her party from the minority vote on yet another issue (property owner's rights).

if bush opens his mouth on this one, the media will most certainly drag out his own baseball teams use of emminent domain to build a new stadium while he was managing it, IIRC. It is certainly possible he doesn't mind the ruling, but if he does, his ability to lambast it is limited.

Hell yes, and when the pool fills up just run the hoses out off that cliff

You are assuming that Bella Pelosi's constituents are reproducing. They are not. You can not as of yet have a baby from two of the same sex.
