If there is a silver lining in Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's election as president of Iran, it is that it will be more difficult for people in the West to delude themselves into thinking they are dealing with so-called pragmatists or reformers who want to end the clerical dictatorship that has brutalized the Iranian people. Such an exercise in self-deception will be far more difficult to engage in now that Americans taken hostage by Iranian students who invaded the U.S. Embassy in Tehran on Nov. 4, 1979, say that Mr. Ahmadinejad played a central role in the takeover, interrogating American captives and demanding harsher treatment of the hostages.

I have only one thing to say about our future relations with this little terrorist Bastard......... "COVERT OPERATIONS!"
Paint him as a born again reformer and arrange a Lebanese style accident for him, and then blame it all of the Radicals

Rafsanjani and Khatami were able to bamboozle Westerners in to thinking the Khomeinists had eschwed their radicalism over the two decades the regime was in power. Ahmadinejab has dispelled such illusions. Iran's Islamist dictatorship is a mortal enemy of the West and is sworn to its destruction as much as the Soviet Communists were for the same reason: they believe their way of life is superior. And I take Ahmadinejab at his word the Khomeinist regime intends to export its Islamofascist ideology abroad by subversion and armed force. The confrontation with Iran will not be long in coming.

Oh, really?
And, where do you propose to acquire the manpower for our Armed Forces required to expand our operations in the Middle East?
This rhetorical question will become increasingly germane in the months ahead, IMHO.
Thus far, every time I pose the question in here, a majority of my fellow Freepers indicate that they are in a sustained sense of denial -- or provide me a "tea leaf" solution that brings discredit to the responder.
Certainly, this third rail issue is not on the tips of our Congressional hack's tongues.
Pax on both their houses.

Wasn't it the communist student group that took the embassy first. Later Khomeini took over when it became obvious that Carter had NO Balls.

Not calling anyone a liar or anything, but my first impression is that this sounds a little too perfect. I can't help but be reminded of the "eyewitnesses" in the Demjanjuk case.

Yes, Really...
Do you think that we sit by while a "well known" terrorist acquires the nuclear "button".
