Huckabee promotes 'open door' policy at LULAC convention

LITTLE ROCK - In an impassioned speech before hundreds of influential Hispanic civil rights leaders from across the nation, Gov. Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened its doors up to people seeking a better way of life.

"Do unto others as you would have others do unto you," Huckabee said, citing the Golden Rule. "I have tried to govern that way and it stands to reason that I really do believe that what made this great country so great and so unique is that it has always been a place for people to run to - and not run from.

"I would hope that no matter who we are, or where we are from, that America should always be a place that opens it arms, opens it heart, opens it spirit to people who come because they want the best for their families...," Huckabee said as the largely Hispanic audience gave him a standing ovation.

Huckabee was the keynote speaker, along with Tyson Foods Inc Chairman and CEO John Tyson, at the noon luncheon of the League of United Latin American Citizens, which is holding its 76th annual convention in Little Rock.

Although he never actually talked about the U.S. or Arkansas immigration policy, Huckabee made it very clear where he stood on the issue. In his opening remarks, he said the nation will need to address the concerns of the Hispanic community because of its growing influence and population base.

"Pretty soon, Southern white guys like me may be in the minority," Huckabee said jokingly as the crowd roared in laughter.

Yes, Huck(abaloney), institute polices that are racist against yourself, just to prove that you are not a racist.

Tyson chicken is the most disgusting on the market. And the fact that Tyson uses illegals to put that crap in the marketplace makes it even worse. Boycott Tyson.

Huckabee, you can suck up to LULAC all you want, but this country has the same right to control its borders that every other country in the World has. And Mexicans in this country are fine - as long as they come in legally.

Because he is obviously connected to Tyson and other big Clinton supporters. Cheap Mexican labor is good for Tyson Chicken and keeps the Dems in power at the same time. He is connected to the Clinton machine in a big way IMHO.

Do unto others as you would have others do unto you,

We can treat illegal Mexicans like they treat illegals coming up from their own southern border? GREAT!!

Some idiot poll on here yesterday had him near the top of Republican Presidential candidates and I burst out laughing -- never would be elected by the base and now he speaks to LULAC. Dumb move!

I hadn't thought he was so bad, but this sure clears things up.

I don't hear much about him. If this is what he's like, I'm sure there's plenty to tell.

We get some info on him since he in AR next to Oklahoma and what I have seen I am not too impressed with. When he ran his wife for a state office when he ran for Governor last time that did me in -- he won and she lost. His wife and Cathy Keating were good friends -- reminded me when Cathy Keating thought she was entitled to the Largent seat and lost.

I'm actually sorry to hear this.

Support the Conservative candidate -- Sen George Allen who is backed by Oklahoma activists and Congressional delegation along with J.C. after he was here in OK for our Convention as the keynote speaker. Two fundraisers for him made a lot of money as Oklahomans opened their pockets to him.

Wish I had a copy of Sen Inhofe's introductory statements or those remarks by J.C., Dr. Tom, and Ernest Istook when they talked about Sen Allen as a conservative. I already liked Sen Allen but after his speech I was even more impressed. He was very sincere when he talked about how he took an oath as a Senator to advise and consent to the President's nominees not to stonewall. He has a lot of IOU's around after his tenure as head of NRSC -- know Oklahomans are grateful for all the help he gave Dr. Tom and then there is always the ouster of Daschle.

Thanks for the additional. I'll have to bone up on this a little. I appreciate the impetus to do so.

Mike is a Republican and has never had any ties to Tyson or Clinton, where in the world do you get such information?

If you knew them, you would know that he does not control his wife at all, she does what she wants. So don't say he ran his wife for anything.
