There is a double standard and part of it is that men and women have different criteria for attraction. That being said, most (decent) men I know are not nearly as hard on women as women are on themselves and each other.

No one is perfect, and I suspect most guys who have a thing for the "perfect women of magazine" would be unbelievably shocked at the real non-airbrushed thing. And Women trying to look like them in real life come of completely differently than they look in the pics. They tend to have very high divorce rates because they are in search of perfection which does not exist. Sometime, take a look at Jamie Lee Curtis' photos when she was trying to prove this point

There are two things that bother me. One is the lack of common courtesy and kindness. We are far, far too judgmental about this sort of thing in this society. You never know why someone is overweight. Sometimes it is lack of exercise and poor diet. But it may be a Thyroid condition or something else they can't control. I have heard people loudly point out fat people and laugh. If I heard it, so did they. I can't imagine anything worse than that. And is it really going to make anything better? No, it's a cheap shot. It's truly despicable.

NOW, if that person starts going around and demanding all kinds of victim status, expecting the world accommodate their special needs, that is a different story. Those people cease being overweight people. They become professional victims. And IMO professional victims are a completely different issue all together.

excellent post! I used to have a really bad victim mentality about my appearance but I would get angry that I would be whining so much. Actually, now that I think about it, I'm pretty embarassed at how jealous I used to get and upset. Now that I'm not single anymore and happy, more guys look at me *LOL*

Oh, I sure can. Around the "pond I swim in" that would get the jester hurt REAL bad.

That's the key to the entire issue. Until women realize that this is something they do to themselves, it's not going to get better.
