A group of nearly 200 soldiers from CFB Kingston, Ont., has started the journey to Afghanistan's Kandahar region.
The troops are part of a team whose job is to provide ongoing support for the Afghan government and work on reconstruction projects.
The full reconstruction team that will ultimately be based in Afghanistan, is made up of soldiers, Mounties, Foreign Affairs personnel and members of the Canadian International Development Agency.
Members of the commando unit known as Joint Task Force 2 are reported to be providing protection for the team.
In addition, soldiers from CFB Petawawa will be heading for Camp Julien in Kabul next month to replace 700 Canadians who are there now working with the NATO-led international peacekeeping force.

I hope they warn the American Pilots that Canadians are on the ground... If I remember correctly Canadians are bomb magnets.

I happen to agree. Denigrating the brave guys /gals who go over there (however ill equipped)reeks of DU. If I were to say the same stuff about US troops I'd be rightly banned.
Good luck guys.

I'll thank the Canadian troops themselves, whose brave and selfless contribution is greatly appreciated.
The fact that you could fit all of them on four school buses is a reason to not praise their government for their underwhelming contribution.

There are currently 700 Canadian forces personnel at Camp Julien near Kabul.
Camp Julien itself is a Canadian base operated for use by US and other forces.
