26 Pounds Of Dynamite Stolen, Detonation Cord Stolen

DURANGO, Colo. -- Authorities said someone stole about 26 pounds of dynamite and detonation cord from a Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad facility.

The material disappeared Tuesday from a storage building at Rockwood, said Dan Bender, spokesman for the La Plata County Sheriff's Office.

"Although thefts of explosives in this area are not common, they're certainly not unheard of, and there's a variety of industrial and agricultural uses for explosives of that type," he said. "There are any number of legitimate uses for it other than making a bomb."

The explosives included one-third of a pound and 4-pound sticks, Bender said.

"need some CAPS if they plan to..."

Wrap the DET cord around the explosives, leave a long tail and wrap the end around a road flare. Leave enough of the flare exposed for at least a ten minute burn, ignite and drive off a 1/2 or where ever.

Idiot will probably try to use the det cord as a fuse.

"Idiot" probably came from Baghdad via Mexico. Probably knows exactly how to use them & when.

I have an off topic question:

Luis Posada Carriles, an expert in explosives who was taught his trade by the US government and was an ex CIA operative, tried to blowup Castro in 2000 when he was here in Panama. His accomplices were caught with 30 pounds of C-4. My question is: What is C-4? Was he going to wipe out Castro or was it going to wipe out a city block in the process?

Thank you.

I lived in Deranged, co. for c. 10 years. This doesnt surprise me, but Durango is a small, sleepy town (except in the summer when the flatlanders come).

p.s. they have a great socialist re-education camp too. Its called Fort Leisure, uh, I mean Fort Lewis

While det cord WILL burn, the 26,400 ft./sec is the detonation velocity and it still requires a cap to detonate it. Contrary to opinions stated here Det Cord is notoriously lousy for taking down trees.

been a while since I'd seen any reference to the Zalinski pneumatic dynamite cannon. Looks sort of like the pumpkin chucking cannons in use now.
