You're right about that...

Believe it or not, they've already started to mothball F/A-18s. My youngest and I saw three sitting in the boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson earlier this week.

I'll take one.

Imagine the looks on my coworkers faces when I taxi into the company parking lot.

EAT THAT, COMMUTING SCUM!

doesn't the F-22 also have the angled tailfins like that? I thought the fins were more straight up and down on an FA-18.

and yes, I realize the F-22 wouldn't be anywhere near an active duty base right now, let alone an Air National Guard base. Just sayin' the tail fin structure looks similar.

Somebody almost got away with selling one on eBay about a year or so ago. Claimed it was a military surplus find.

Didn't just yesterday a Buckley F-16 crash while attempting to land at Lamar, Colorado?

View of an F-22 rear end is dominated by the vertical and horizontal stabilizers. The engine nozzles are less noticeable than on the F-18. The F-22 has entered the operational inventory at Langley AFB, VA. Check out the USAF link: http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?storyID=123010517

Some of the aircraft mothballed here are in temporary storage. The Navy routinely mothballs part of the Carrier Air Wing for whatever carrier is undergoing SLEP. Its not quite the same provcess as the older aircraft, but it saves on wear and tear apparently.

Yep!

Military jet crashes at Lamar Airport
By Cindy Buxton

A Colorado Air National Guard pilot escaped with minor injuries after an emergency landing at Lamar Airport yesterday afternoon.

The pilot, whose name has not been released, suffered a sprained ankle when he ejected from his F-16 Fighting Falcon at approximately 1:30 p.m. yesterday. The single pilot/single jet engine aircraft was part of the 140th Wing, Colorado Air National Guard based at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora. The unit has served twice in Operation Iraqi Freedom beginning in March of 2003.

But the shimmy will finally stop at about 650 mph.

Well to test this I guess I am going to have to get somebody to shoot me and my Jeep out of a cannon!!

I want a front row seat to watch the cannon and jeep trick. On second thought, maybe I will watch thru binoculars from a LONG distance.
