You're right about that...
Believe it or not, they've already started to mothball F/A-18s. My youngest and I saw three sitting in the boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson earlier this week.

Believe it or not, they've already started to mothball F/A-18s. My youngest and I saw three sitting in the boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson earlier this week. Some of the aircraft mothballed here are in temporary storage. The Navy routinely mothballs part of the Carrier Air Wing for whatever carrier is undergoing SLEP. Its not quite the same provcess as the older aircraft, but it saves on wear and tear apparently.
