The ANG doesn't fly F-18s. They fly F-16s and F-15s.

It is on the eastern outskirts of Aurora, CO, a suburb to the east of Denver. This worries me. I was stationed at a Marine radar site at the end of the runway most often used by the F18s. I recall a couple close calls we had when a bird came in under emergency conditions. I hope my old unit didn't just get pickled.

Thanks. My dad taught at the Academy in the 60's but I was just a little girl.
I do remember the constant noise of the jets on the base though. I thought it might have been one of their's.
Guess not. I hope the pilot got out okay.

We had a F18 put on one hell of a show last week at the Dyess Big Country Appreciation Day last week.
Also had a F18 on static display, the static one belonged to the Marines.
Prayers for all involved.

Latest on the radio - the plane never took off. It lost it's hydraulics and crashed into the hanger. Pilot is OK. Sounds like he destroyed a weather station though.

I thought it said Berkley. That would have been ironic. Of course a missle being 'misfired' into Berkley would have seem appropriate.

My boy was just reassigned to Buckley. I have a call in to make sure that everything is OK. Preliminary news would seem to indicate that's so. Militant

I'm guessing that was a Guard jet. Air Guard does not fly F/A-18s only the Navy, Marines, Canadians, Swiss and a few others. Probably just on a cross country and stopping for fuel.

That was pointed out to my by the zoomies. I think there is a fair amount of traffic in transit out there. The President now flies in to Buckley when visiting Denver too.
