"The government can now take your home and sell it to a private developer."

Those are the words of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor in her dissent from the draconian Supreme Court ruling in the case of Kelo v The City of New London..

The Kelo decision is an outright repudiation of the most basic American principle -- constitutional protection for life, liberty and property.

But we are not about to take this assault on our God-given liberties lying down!

When we heard of this decision on Thursday, we immediately went to work. And Senator John Cornyn has already answered the call.

Just hours ago, Senator Cornyn introduced legislation in the United States Senate -- The Protection of Homes, Small Businesses, and Private Property Act of 2005.

This legislation will help correct the High Court's draconian Kelo decision and begin to restore our private property rights as guaranteed in the Constitution.

But Senator Cornyn needs your help.

Every Senator who stands for individual liberty should co-sponsor this legislation.

It's a no-brainer. For our elected leaders, there is nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.

That's why I want ALL 100 Members of the United States Senate to co-sponsor this vital legislation.

And -- more importantly -- I make you this promise -- for those who refuse to help -- we will hold their feet to the fire and expose their refusal to every man, woman and child in America!

Use the hyperlink below to send your personalized Blast Fax message to President George W. Bush, and the Members of the Senate Leadership.

Join us and demand that the Senate leaders sign on as co-sponsors of the Protection of Homes, Small Businesses and Private Property Act of 2005.

What have the liberals been saying about this, they seem awful quite.

The reason could be they believe in empowering government, and that means confiscating as much tax money they can to engage and promote their social engineering.

Ho hum! Another law. Now we need laws to reinforce what other laws don't accomplish.

How is this law going to accomplish what the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land, didn't? Don't you think these guys in Washington will be able to come with workarounds for this too?

Sorry... but I'm feeling very skeptical.

The legislation only means what five members of the Supreme Court want it to mean. Do you really think Cornyn's legislation is going to be clearer, more definitive than the Constitution? The problem is not that the framers of the constitution forgot to allow for the ownership of private property. It's that some justices pay no attention to the constitution and make it up as they go along. If they don't respect Madison and Hamilton, why are they going to respect Cornyn?

As I understand it, the SCOTUS decision in the Kelo case concerns the taking of private property under the rule of eminent domain by local governments.

Therefore, the best way IMHO to ensure that this doesn't happen is for everyone to become more involved in local government by attending village/town board meetings (or better yet, running for office) to prevent this from happening in the first instance. As they say, "all politics is local".

I've been reading the Zimbabwe threads about bulldozing thousands from their homes, sorts sounds like Zimbabwe would have our Supreme Courts blessing.
