HARTFORD, Conn. -- Republican leaders in the state Senate have called for another special session to consider legislation limiting Connecticut's eminent domain laws following its defeat in the General Assembly on Tuesday.
The proposal, offered in response to last week's U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing New London to take homes for a private development project, was killed on a mostly 22-11 party-line vote in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
The House of Representatives, which also is run by Democrats, defeated a similar proposal 82-50.
The plans were offered as amendments to legislation that details the two-year, $31.2 billion budget and other provisions.

It would be interesting to check in on Connecticut later and see if the new tax base is working or not. But the question that I've never seen answered is "What happens if the new tax base doesn't work out?"
I can just see the commercial now.
Some Mr. and Mrs America being booted out of their house so the insider buddies of the realestateagent commissioners can build a condo or eyesore townhouses for the tax base.
Perhaps dress the commissioners in komisar USSR uniforms.
You get you house back at the same place people go to get back their reputation.
It appears that 2/3rds of Connecticut is composed of Dems & Libs. Sounds like the state gets what they deserve. See if they vote different the next time around.
This particular supreme court ruling will destroy freedom in America for generations or it will result in the overthrow of the current political class by a brash, freedom-loving group/party.
Every person I spoke to here on this issue is appalled by the Supremes ruling in this matter.Even the libs (Abet middle class)
DEMOCRATS DECLARE WAR ON MIDDLE CLASS!
take the houses for condos and then use the bases for commerical developments and where the serfs from the condos will work.
I imagine many deveopers are chomping at the bits to convert single family NON ASSOCIATION homes into condos due to the aging baby boomers.
The DUmmies have been saying all week that the GOP was in favor of the eminent domain court ruling and the Democrats were the ones who would be fighting for the little guy.
This goes to show how gullible they are.
Could SCOTUS have given the GOP a winning issue for the state legislatures in 2006?
For some reason I am thinking of that Wendy's burger commercial with the Soviet Union fashion show.
One size of assigned residential unit fits all.
You don't need a three bedroom house, you only need 500 sq feet to live.
How dare you limit the tax base by putting one house on 1/4 of an acre.
The "tax base" leaves town, i.e. abandons "their property" for the townsfolk to clean up. You see it in your town--abandoned strip malls where pasture used to exist, with a big, empty warehouse-type building with a faded "K-Mart" or "Wal*Mart" stain on it and a bunch of satellite shops surrounding it that used to have upscale businesses ("attractive tax bases"), but are now occupied by arcades and laundromats and need 24x7 police patrols to keep the bums and drug dealers down.
To the people of CT, the value of your property has been reduced by the action of the SCOTUS and your commie legislators. In mass, you must flood your tax assessors offices demanding a reduction in your taxes.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Aren't ALL of us - from all parties - PO'd about that Supreme Court ruling? The democrats are digging their own graves if they defeat this attempt. Whatever.
" This "emminent domain" issue could be the best thing for our party right now. "
If you follow the lead of the top dog of the republican party don't expect too much. It was GWB that lobbied the Texas legislators to have eminent domain laws changed in Texas, allowing private individuals and companies to essentially take private property. This move made it possible for the "Texas Rangers" to steal property in Arlington Texas for a new stadium and stick the bill to taxpayers. GWB made about $15mm on the deal.
How right you are. They'll have to pry my cold dead hands from my doorknob to get me out. I pray that the American people wake up and finally take a serious stand against this. Maybe the time has come for another revolution?
Anyone who paints this as an eminent domain issue is also a "domestic enemy" IMO. Property for highways or public works is one thing. Taking private property and giving it to private citizen or corporations is piracy. I do own a cutlass an it ain't an oldsmobile.
You say we have a Constitution,...well you know

So that's why we haven't heard ONE WORD about this from our president. I'm sick of hearing the same speech about "Iraqi freedom" over and over again.
