Baltimore County's top prosecutor says she will leave post at end of 8th term

TOWSON -- Sandra O'Connor, Baltimore County's state's attorney for more than three decades, has said she will retire, according state officials.

A Republican, O'Connor said she will retire in December 2006 when her eighth term ends, according to a release from the Baltimore County State's Attorney's office....

K.J. Lopez of National Review posted on "The Corner," one of NR Online's blogs, the following message at 10:03 AM EDT: "SANDRA O'CONNOR ... HAS SAID SHE WILL RETIRE, ACCORDING TO A LOCAL RADIO STATION." He (or she -- I neither know or care) immediately followed with another message: "Sorry. I'm mean. But you knew that."

So it is clear that Mr./Ms. Lopez knew that the subject wasn't Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

Lopez, you're not "mean." The word is JACKASS. If you want to amuse yourself by floating deliberately misleading bulletins, you should do so on your own private blog, rather than one associated with the proud name of National Review. If I were William F. Buckley, Jr. (or whoever is running the show now), you'd be out the door by now.

It isn't that hard to find out Kathryn's name, bio, and anything else you want to know, before posting about her. Feel free to be upset with her, but put a little effort into it.

The Corner is pretty much a free-for-all of ludicrous postings, jokes, snide comments, and in-fighting amongst the NRO people, which they allow us to read.

If you just popped into it for the first time, you could be confused. But the signs are there. For example, the posting that the local news story about O'Connor included a link which tells you who is resigning. Nobody should site the headline of any blog without reading the information being referenced.

But feel free to write her, she will probably pick the best few and make fun of them tomorrow in The Corner.
