/Vanity Alert On/
I know we sometimes get on the Canadians about getting the motes out of their own eyes before they look in our direction. Here's a good example.
I sell a business opportunity. (Doesn't matter which one.) Today I was making sales calls by phone, and one of them was to an attorney in Quebec.
He liked the opportunity, but he had to stop me. He recognized it could make him a fairly good amount of money, but he said that he could not take advantage of the offer because the government of Quebec would in effect smash his attempt. After telling me that the spirit of free enterprise is essentially dead, quashed by the government because of required permits, excessive taxes and both formal and informal pressures on outsiders. (The attorney is a naturalized U.S. citizen, and he is ready to return.) He further said that, if you don't speak French or weren't born in Quebec, the system would eventually pound you into submission.
In addition to the quashing of free enterprise, the governments of Quebec have gone so far as to create a virtually socialistic state in Cananda. He said, for example, to repair or paint his house, he would have to get a license--his word--to do so. The exception would be if he had a relative who would perform the work. He said that, if he himself were to paint a stroke or hammer a nail, he would have to pay heavy fees and go through tons of red tape to do renovations.
He sounded so defeated. I told him we would be happy when he returned home. He said he would likely live in Florida.
"I just wanted to tell a fellow American what it's like to live here," he said, or words to that effect.
We have to keep doing what we do, Freepers. This is the kind of socialistic paradise the Clintons, Schumer, Kerry, Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy et al. I'm not sure California is as bad as Quebec, but let's continue to work to keep it from being so.
I believe the proper term is Quebecor or Quebecois...
"I believe the proper term is Quebecor or Quebecois..."
Thank you. See what happens when you fell asleep in high school freshman French? I wouldn't even be able to surrender properly.
LOL
my wife took high school French but I actually learned those terms in a Historical fiction novel :)
Oh, just tell him to go on down to the Rue St. Catherine, get knee-walking smashed and have some nasty Poutines to soak it all up at 4:00 in the morning. Quebecois aren't good for much, but they do know how to drink. When in Rome, and all that.

Alas: Historical novels: another sad failing of mine.
Étiez vous parlant avec lui en Français? Parce-que si pas, vous avez perdu le temps.
"Quebecor"
That's a printing company. I think you meant "Quebecer."
yep...you are correct...
I just misspelled it though... :)
LOL

Are you kidding? See my previous post about fall asleep in French class. I'm proud of you guys who stayed awake.
Good post!
There are free online translation services, you know. He said "Were you speaking with him in French? Because if not, you were wasting your time."

Thank you. Actually, the attorney spoke exceptionally good English. It was only because he did that we were able to have the conversation. Incidentally, in the background, I could hear conversations going on in French.
Question: is it actually French. I have heard that it is a dialect but not pluperfect French.
I think it's Quebeckistan, you know, like Canuckistan.
You wanted to say Queborrhoid?
Bingo!
We have a winner on aisle 15...
Semper Fi
LOL
hehe how about Quebec -whores...
Well, almost every young Canadian woman I have met has been fit, attractive, and good-looking. They must be doing something right...
