CNN's Lou Dobbs broke the self-imposed television embargo on the new biography of Hillary Clinton Monday night with an in depth interview with author Edward Klein.
Describing Kleins "The Truth About Hillary as a "highly controversial and provocative book, Dobbs challenged Klein on allegations he is reported to have made, including charges that Hillary is a lesbian and that Bill Clinton once "raped his wife.
Dobbs noted the "salacious nature of the biography and "the highly personal attacks that you bring to bear . . . But this is reaching to a personal level that is extraordinary.
Klein noted some allegations, such as claims Bill raped Hillary, are not to be found in his book. He reminded Dobbs that some of the sensational items about Hillary simply could not be avoided.
"It's impossible to do a biography of Hillary without discussing such matters, he said, referring to sex scandals that plagued the Clinton presidency.
Today, Sen. Clinton is trying to remake her image, Klein suggested. Klein cited her appearance this weekend with Billy Graham in New York as an effort to do so.
"I don't believe in coincidences, Klein said, adding, "And I don't believe that Hillary Clinton was sitting on the stage with the most famous evangelist in America at a time when she's trying to convince the entire country that she believes in God, prayer, family, patriotism, and she isn't a leftist.
Dobbs also asked the bestselling author about efforts to keep him off TV.
"A number of networks and broadcasts have cancelled your show. We thank you for being here. When do you appear again on television?"
Klein responded, "Well, whenever the Clintons stop preventing me from appearing, since they've done a full court press with ABC, CBS, and NBC to keep me off."
Since his first appearance on Fox News early last week, Klein has been hit with a deluge of cancellations from most of the major television networks who had scheduled him.
NewsMax reported Monday that Klein had been the victim of an organized censorship effort by the Clinton camp to keep him off major television shows.
CNN host Howard Kurtz also reported this weekend that Sen. Clinton's office was actively trying to suppress the book by encouraging television shows not to give Klein air time.
On his "Reliable Sources" show Kurtz said, "A spokesman for Senator Clinton told me that when news organizations call, they do make the argument, why give this guy airtime."
In most cases, the effort has apparently worked. For example, Klein had been scheduled for MSNBC's "Scarborough Country" Monday night, but his appearance was abruptly cancelled earlier in the day.
In a thinly veiled dig at others who have succumbed to pressure to keep Klein off the air, Dobbs concluded his interview by noting: "We'll continue to have folks [on], irrespective of what the other folks are doing."
Klein had been booked on nearly a dozen shows, besides Dobbs. But only the Fox News Channel and the Sinclair Broadcastings News Central kept their initial commitment though Fox has since cancelled three scheduled appearances with the author.
Sinclair managing editor Carl Gottlieb said on Monday that he wasn't fazed by the rest of the media's disdain for Klein's book.
"That's why we exist - to report stories other people won't," he told NewsMax.
That's too bad. They had a pretty decent case for political censorship going for a little while.
P Diddy and C Shiddy.
I thought I saw Klein interviewed on FNC the other night. .....I believe it was with Hannity, but it could've been with the Bloviater.
Excuse me, I need to rush over to newsmax.com and buy the book. I'll be right back.
ummm isn't this the same thing Michael Moore did with his F-911 movie? Say oh they are going to censor it, rememeber when he was saying they the company wasnt going to produce it or whatever.... that brought on attention.... is this the same thing?
Considering the fact that moore was not censored, but lionized, no.
I saw Klein's interview on CSPAN2 last night with Jim Bohannon (originally from the 23rd p.m.)-- he never claimed she was a lesbian, according to what he said during the interview. On the contrary, he said her interest in lesbian political figures and lesbian literature appears to NOT be sexually motivated, but rather is motivated by political considerations-- there is no evidence she has ever engaged in sexual relations with a woman. He actually appeared to give her a pass on many fronts, but there were some less charitable views too-- like when he said she's 'more Nixonian than Nixon ever was', if you take the meaning. And that if it weren't for Monica Lewinsky, she'd never have become the likely presidential nominee for the Democratic party in 2008. Overall he came across as very reasonable in his assessments of her. Jim Bohannan disappointed me though-- he said he'd have to take a close look at her specific positions before he would say he would NOT vote for her (didn't rule out voting for her in '08). What a vacuous wimp, reminds me of O'Reilly.
Bill O'Reilly quickly succombed to Hillary's pressure.
do you ever sleep?
"self-imposed television embargo"
"Self-imposed"? I thought they were knuckling under to the Clintons.
The New York Post-his flagship American newspaper-is following the same model as The Sun, which became one of Tony Blair's mainstays of support in the journalistic community.
The Post is already denigrating the prospects of Hillary's only declared Republican challenger, and this is only the beginning.
Principles mean nothing when there is money to be made or a profit to be turned.
The media matrix still has too tight a grip on the public consciousness.
It needs to be broken!
Is that her step son?
Wow. Wonder what that's all about?
you rock!!
missus clinton's profound dysfunction--her utter paranoia and megalomania-- is becoming impossible to conceal, even from the most casual observer--less because of the Klein book than because of her realtime reaction to it. As for her blackmailing, censoring and her cozy clintonoid interviews of the Colmes kind m.o.,
Old media have two choices--get used to it... or band together against this sick, dangerous... person... and stop committing 4th-estate malfeasance. She needs them more than they need her. |
Leni Riefenstahl was the film genius who outmaneuvered propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels to chronicle Hitler's 1934 Nuremberg rallies in perhaps the most notorious documentary ever filmed, Triumph of the Will. For sheer power, reach, and ruthlessness, however, the fascist Riefenstahl operation doesn't hold a candle to the Clinton agitprop machine... Whereas Leni Riefenstahl symbolizes the naïve actress and director who is induced to deal with devils, Hillary Clinton is actor, director and--many would argue--devil, rolled into one willful, corrupt, vengeful, despotic, paranoic package. And so we have today... here in America... in America!... Hillary Clinton and her media apparatchiks conducting a campaign of censorship-by-terror that is without precedent; without precedent even if we include in the calculus the despotic Clinton years.... "It's the Gary Aldrich fiasco revisited."
Exactly! The one dubious part of Aldrich's book (about Slick sneaking out under cover of night) was ALL that was repeated, over and over...proved to be a great way to discredit the whole book. (Slick may have actually sneaked out a couple of times...who knows?)
THE FOLLOWING ARE A FEW Q&AS ABOUT THE SALACIOUS PARTS OF KLEINS BOOK. YOU CAN READ THE ENTIRE INTERVIEW AT THE WEBSITE POSTED.
The Truth About Hillary
An author tells his story.

Q&A by Kathryn Jean Lopez
NRO: Matt Drudge has highlighted the "rape" claim in your book. Which, to be upfront here, I thought was a terrible story to be highlighting, about a child and her parents. Why on earth would you put such a terrible story in your book? that looks to be flimsily sourced at that. But even if it wasnt why tell it?
KLEIN: Let's set the record straight here. Actually, I don't make that claim in the book. I included the story about their 1979 trip to Bermuda because Hillary herself brings it up and spins it in her own book as an example of their supposedly romantic marriage. The point of the story is that my source, who was with the Clintons in Bermuda and quoted Bills boastful remarks to me, was stunned when Bill phoned him a few months later and told him he just learned of Hillary's pregnancy by reading about it in the newspaper! Those who read the book will see this is hardly a rape story rather it's yet another example of a bizarre political union where a pregnancy is leaked to the largest newspaper in the state and treated as political gain rather than shared privately as a couple.
NRO: You do relay Bill Clinton claiming he was going off to rape his wife, however and then a morning-after report that suggests that might, in fact, have happened. Surely you see how that would become the "rape chapter" of the book and maybe the most obvious headline from the book? Might it have been more trouble than it was worth simply to relay that the Clintons have a "bizarre" relationship? Surely there are more polite examples.
KLEIN: Here's why it's not a rape claim: I dont imply the source was in the room with the Clintons, for all my source knows they could have had a massive fight and then reconciled. My source doesnt speculate, I dont speculate. This whole story, "the rape story" as its being called by others, speaks more to how the Clintons communicate, their bizarre relationship. And, of course, the whole point of the story is how she leaked her pregnancy to the press didn't talk about it with her husband first.
-snip-
NRO: How many times do you use the word "lesbian" in your book? Why point out she had friends who were lesbians? Do we need to go there?
KLEIN: Hillarys politics were shaped by the culture of radical feminism and lesbianism at Wellesley College in the 1960s. This is paramount in exploring the political life of Hillary Clinton.
How could someone write a comprehensive biography of Hillary Clinton without investigating the rumors that have long circulated about her? I've gone further than any other journalist in exploring the question of her sexuality, which is often the first thing people wonder about her: Is she misrepresenting herself as a doting wife to Bill Clinton? How can she stand his chronic infidelity?
As for the number of times the word appears in the book, I don't know. But I'm sure there are some in the Clinton campaign counting right now.
NRO: One more sex thing. You write: "Hillary Clinton only had herself to blame for the talk about her sex life." Can there ever really be a good reason for this, never mind in her case?
KLEIN: The Clintons themselves made sex an integral part of our national political discourse at the turn of the century. Theres no way of getting around sex when it comes to the Clintons.
-snip-
NRO: Are you nervous putting out a product that seems to be based on a lot of anonymous sources?
KLEIN: Were Woodward and Bernstein?
-snip-
NRO: Why should anyone trust or believe your portrait of Hillary Clinton?
KLEIN: Because it is written by a journalist with impeccable credentials (Newsweek, the New York Times, Vanity Fair, Parade), who has no political agenda.
My previous book, The Kennedy Curse, was also the object of disparagement and vilification and it has since become clear that everything I wrote was true.
You may not be able to judge a book by its cover, but you sure can judge a book by the authors track record, and my record is impeccable.
NRO: Why should a fair-minded voter read your book before 2008?
KLEIN: Because Hillarys 2006 campaign for reelection to the Senate is a dry run for her 2008 campaign for the White House, and the time has come for her opponents to size her up and devise a strategy to stop her.
