Ward Churchill backs fragging

Controversial '9-11 prof' suggests rolling grenades under line officers

Prof. Ward Churchill

University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill suggested to a forum on conscientious objection they might be more effective in opposing war if they supported the "fragging" or killing of line officers.

In a Portland meeting on resistance to military recruiting, Churchill, famous for comparing Sept. 11, 2001, victims in the World Trade Center to "little Eichmanns," twice suggested anti-war activists should support those who kill their officers.

"For those of you who do, as a matter of principle, oppose war in any form, the idea of supporting a conscientious objector who's already been inducted [and] in his combat service in Iraq might have a certain appeal," he said. "But let me ask you this: Would you render the same support to someone who hadn't conscientiously objected, but rather instead rolled a grenade under their line officer in order to neutralize the combat capacity of their unit?"

Later, in a question-and-answer period, Churchill was asked whether the trauma "fragging" inflicts on that officer's family back home should be considered, he responded: "How do you feel about Adolf Eichmann's family?"

Earlier, Churchill blamed the five-month-old controversy over his post-Sept. 11 essay on a faulty grammar-checker.

He did not intend to suggest the 9-11 victims were "little Eichmanns" he claims now. Instead, he blamed the grammar checker for changing what he says he actually wrote: "little Entenmanns" -- referring to the brand of pastries.

"My metaphorical use of food in the essay is, of course, complex to the layman, but surely you've all heard the expression 'as American as apple pie,'" he said. "Well, I'd meant to relate the 'Americanness' and 'lovability' of those poor people who died on 9-11 to the well-known popularity of Entenmann's glazed donuts."

The case for exemption for conscientious objectors is that they decline to serve in the military because of their belief that killing is always wrong even when at war, so Ward wants them to kill their leaders?

Logicaly this does not work for me.

What part of this story did Fox run? The blog doesn't mention the fragging part.

Looks like this is a bogus article. See post #46. Fox & Friends discussed the article on their show this morning. Those on the left coast check to see if they pull that discussion.

I am an American Indian (AND a Native American. I was born in America, thank you.)

I am a layman.

As an American Indian layman, I believe that Ward Churchill is totally and functionally crazy. (Please excuse the technical psychological terms.)

I also believe that he is a vile human being.

unbelievable

What's he going to say when challanged on his call to 'frag' officers? that he meant to throw pies and krullers, not grenades?

Check post 46. Looks like World Net Daily, Fox & Friends and I all got taken on a bogus article.

Still waiting to hear from WND. I told them about the blog site that was a satire of Churchill.

"Well, I'd meant to relate the 'Americanness' and 'lovability' of those poor people who died on 9-11 to the well-known popularity of Entenmann's glazed donuts."

I'm stunned at the stupidity of Ward Churchill.

No, If the story isn't true that's fine. I didn't post the story I responded to it. He has a agenda against America and he will continue to pursue it. Care to make a bet he will say something outrageous again?

"Fragging" brings back some ugly memories for me. In 'Nam, you always heard ugly rumors that someone had gotten done in by his own troops.
