Our prayers go out to the families of these children. A horrible tragedy.

Another item for the "it's just beyond me" file. Camden has one of the highest murder rates in the nation, more that 500/year for the past decade +. I guess that number is acceptable.

This situation never seemed to "catch on". Because they were minority? Illegals?

I am livid. We were on standby for over 24 hours for this search. As I had suspected, they have no clue how to conduct a search. They were found very close to the house. We generally search that area *several* times. They refused to call us out until it was too late. Why? Politics, plain and simple. They even suspended the search last night at about 6:30 pm on account of darkness (!) Even the policemen involved said they had no clue how to search. This is a horrible tragedy that should not have happened.

Unfortunately now that they are now dead, I dare say that I hope that thier lives were ended as quickly as possible I.E. murdered. But from what I gather, it looks like they got locked into the trunk while playing and died an agonisingly slow painful death. Just damn!

500 murders per year for the past decade! WoW! That's 5,000 murder victims! Since Camden has a total population under 100,000 that means 5% were murdered! Holy Cow!

btw...the REAL number is under 35 homicides per year, but you were close.

I don't understand how nobody could have heard them screaming and kicking-- trying to get out of the trunk, if they were so close to home. I think they went missing in the evening, probably didn't have the sun heating up the car so much at that time.

They might resad this or contact the Laura Recovery Center. These people know everything about searching for missing children.

MorganQuitno.com has Camden as the most dangerous city in America. FWIW

OMG! Your account makes this all the more tragic! You should contact someone in the media.

It's so political you wouldn't believe it. It's a matter of pride with these people, especially urban police. They think they can do it, but as you can see, they obviously can't. They view us as people who will make them look bad. Instead, they should view us as a tool at their disposal. They stop searchs at night because they don't want to pay overtime. We are volunteers and never stop unless told to by the police. Police officers fight crime, and firefighters fight fires. We train several times a month to find people. That's what we do. We train hard and are good at it. It's a shame that a tragedy such as this happens.

Maybe ran out of oxygen & were dead before anyone noticed they were missing?

Again. Talk to someone in the media... Get your chief or underlings on board to TALK TO SOMEONE! Heck, go to World Net Daily, Michele Malkin or even Newsmax! Skip the locals the more I think about it, they are worthless.. Go national. Try to be anonymous... Just get it out there!

Yes, that's probably what happened. I'll bet they only had half an hour or so.

i>Again. Talk to someone in the media.

That rarely works. Embarassing the officials is not a good way to make relations. You see the dilemma? Many don't like asking for help. Running a search correctly is much harder than it looks. YOu have maps, and grids, and detailed documentation. It takes a lot of practice and hard work. Again, this is exactly what we train for.

The police really screwed up on this one. The first place you check is around the home. Kids that age like to hide in cubby holes: trunks, car trunks, washer/dryers refrigerators, under the bed, in closets, even the beginner fireman knows to look in corners, under the bed, etc. in homes on fire.

They showed a car on the news, a mid-90's model Toyota Camry sedan. Those cars have fold-down seats in the back row that open into the trunk. Unless it was just a shot of a random car, I don't see how they could have trapped themselves in the trunk.

I should have double checked that stat before posting, I was looking at another source and transposed numbers. The city was named the 4th most dangerous in the nation for 2003 and took the title of most dangerous 2004 from New Fallujah. Murder rate in Camden in 51.2/100,000 - 2004. Also a violent crime rate increase from 18/1000 to 24/1000 in 2005.
35 murders is low by about 15 to 25 per year. I believe it was 1995 that hit the 60 number.
