I don't understand how nobody could have heard them screaming and kicking-- trying to get out of the trunk...
Maybe ran out of oxygen & were dead before anyone noticed they were missing?

They showed a car on the news, a mid-90's model Toyota Camry sedan. Those cars have fold-down seats in the back row that open into the trunk. Unless it was just a shot of a random car, I don't see how they could have trapped themselves in the trunk.

I'm skeptical. Trunks are not air tight and most even have an escape hatch into the back seat. Also, why was the trunk open for the boys to climb into it? Three boys that age would crowd a trunk pretty well. Between them they should have been able to force the trunk open enough to let in enough air.
Now, I don't think that accidental death is beyond the realm of possibility. But I'm not buying it at this point.
