Just one day after its official release, Edward Klein's new book about Hillary Clinton has reached the No. 2 spot on Amazon.com's list of best sellers.
"The Truth About Hillary: What She Knew, When She Knew It, and How Far She'll Go to Become President" shot past David McCullough's blockbuster work "1776" to take the list's second spot and was only surpassed by the latest Harry Potter book.
The news of Klein's success is bad news for Hillary, whose top aides have been working overdrive to close down the author's public appearances. Klein has been locked out of traditional venues for book publicity, such as NBC's 'Today' show, 'Oprah' and other major programs.
But Americans are voting for the book with their wallets.
Washington Times Blankley: Book Is 'Required Reading'
Edward Klein's controversial new book about Hillary Clinton is "required reading" for people who care about politics, says Washington Times editorial page editor Tony Blankley.
The commentator also counters media spin that the book is filled with gossip that even conservatives are shunning.
"This is not a scandal book intended merely to gratify the reader's salacious interests," Blankley writes about "The Truth About Hillary: What She Knew, When She Knew It, and How Far She'll Go to Become President."
"Instead, Mr. Klein has written a serious political and psychological biography of the most likely next Democratic nominee for president - and thus, quite plausibly I fear, the next president of the United States."
The conservative pundit - who frequently appears on TV talk shows - writes in his column that Klein's "heavily researched" book offers "more than a peek" into the mind of Hillary.
"And whether you like or hate Hillary, the inside of her mind is a fascinating place in which to rove about," said Blankley. "Hillary haters will certainly find further evidence to support their sentiment."
He adds: "Principled liberals, I suspect, will be deeply disconcerted by what they will find out about her mind in this book.
Stunned Hillary Reacts to Book
New York Senator Hillary Clinton tried her best to sound unruffled Tuesday when a reporter asked her about Ed Klein's new blockbuster book, "The Truth About Hillary."
"It goes with the territory," Mrs. Clinton told the New York Post after a press conference on Capitol Hill to support funding for the Public Broadcasting Service.
Clinton then signaled she'd have no more to say, donning a pair of sunglasses and announcing, "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood."
The former first lady's reaction was a far cry from comments by her top aides in recent days, who Klein claims have been working overtime to shut down his radio and TV bookings.
"This is a book full of blatant and vicious fabrications contrived by someone who writes trash for cash," barked Hillary spokesman Philippe Reines.
"We don't comment on trash like this," said her husband's spokesman, Jim Kennedy.
On Tuesday Klein said the campaign to shut him up has succeeded with some hosts.
"A number of people who have booked me on TV and radio have already canceled," Klein told ABC radio host Sean Hannity. "And the reason they've canceled is because the publicity machine of the Clintons is hard at work."
In 1996, the Clinton media operation mounted a similar campaign against former FBI agent Gary Aldrich, whose bombshell tome "Unlimited Access" had blown the lid off the Filegate scandal.
"If you look at the people behind him, they're right-wing Republican political operatives who are determined to destroy the president," Clinton operative George Stephanopoulos fumed. "They're trying to tear him down."
The Leprechaun....
Thanks!

The day a rope is hanging from a sequoia is a "beautiful day."
Yeah, and keep the shades on babe. Be a nice touch.
I agree with your assessment of Savage. All that you say illustrates the reason for which he didn't last long on the show he had a couple of years ago on MSNBC. I believe it was in the 6 PM (ET) time slot which is now the Abrams Report.
Savage has an unappealing, cold, slicing, unaccommodating, mean spirited style. If he were a woman, you could call him "Nurse Ratchet."
Char :)
On November 24, 2001 former DEMOCRATIC congressional aide Chris Matthews told former DEMOCRATIC congressional aide Tim Russert (AND his nationwide TV audience) on MSNBC that former DEMOCRATIC pollster Pat Caddell had said, "The Clintons -- they're 'white trash,' and I can say that because I'm from Florida." |
Hillary would be the ideal candidate for the Dems for President.
First, she gives men the heebie jeebies.
Second, she gives women the heebie jeebies.
She is guaranteed to LOSE if she wins the nomination.
We should be doing everything possible to promote her chances.
Char :)
Hillary IS the issue. We can't afford Mr. Nice Guy/Bob Dole this time around; the stakes are too high. We will make Hillary the issue.
Thank God for Lee Atwater and Willie Horton.
You're welcome. It's nice to get positive feedback. I hope some folks remember it next time my posting is ill-timed or inappropriate again (which happens way too often!).
I've heard B O'R in the last few days make, more than once,
his usual absolutely conclusive prononouncements on the Klein book to the effect that there was "nothing new in it, nothing new at all" and consequently not worth his or his audience's time. "We don't do smear" etc. etc. I don't know whether O'Reilly had actually read the book, or just skimmed it, or merely talked to friends of his that had read it. I haven't read it either, but a book in which there is absolutely nothing new might also be a book in which all the most troubling facts about Hillary are stated and re-stated again because there are still some who are not conversant with the Clintoon's history and know what to expect from them.
I wonder why Hillary does not sue?
Don't you?
OK, I'm buying the book -- this guy's not a conservative, but he's one very brave, totally cool, journalist.

NRO: Do you believe, as Hillary expressed around impeachment time, that there was a "vast-right-wing conspiracy" out to do her husband in?
Klein: The only conspiracy that existed during impeachment time was Bill and Hillarys attempt to hide the truth.
NRO: Did you vote for Bill Clinton? Klein: No. NRO: You're a New Yorker. Did you vote for Hillary for senator? Would you vote for Hillary for president? Klein: No and no.
NRO: A Sentinel spokesman said recently that The Truth about Hillary could be Hillary's Swift Boat Vets. Do you intend that or expect that? Klein: I intended my book to take a good hard look at Hillarys true character, and if the book is being compared to the Swift Boat Vets book on that account, then I am proud of the comparison.
I think you do not understand what I mean.
Anything and everything, little and small, rumor and innuendo all in vain hope it'll be the 'smoking gun' to take her down will deal more harm than good.
Character of a presidential candidate is valid. I've stated before I consider it the primary issue. Above and beyond whether they be a Liberal or a conservative.
The character of this woman can be demonstrated in other fashion, though, than allegations of being a 'lesbian'.
Just as G.W.'s character came though despite the dredging up of charges of drug use.
This woman is cold, calculating, has used her married name to be where she is. Her business dealings are questionable. Her past as a '60's radical more than open to help paint the portrait of the woman known today. In this manner her character can be made known without resorting to mud. Even if some of it may prove to be true.
I'm all for making the character of the woman an issue in so much as it paints a portrait of how she'd operate as President to show the American people her intentions are not aligned with their best interests.
If you seek to convince me, though, that FBI files in a lockbox should be used as ammunition? There we would split.
Judas Priest, Eagle. That's got to be the most horrifying image I've ever imagined. If I were a drinker I'd be at the jug right now.

Well, can you find me a MORE HORRIFYING PROSPECT FOR THE PRESIDENCY? I am already having bad dreams over the mere fact that that Marxist Medusa is even in the running for the highest office in the land --- has the U.S. degenerated so far, that our end in near???
Any candidate that doesn't sling mud and get mean and nasty I have no respect for and won't vote for.
I've always lived by the rule that nice guys run last!
I understand Klein goes into details about the tainted blood scandal.
So be it.
That is YOUR choice.
I choose the distinction between a campaign fought on Truth (which some consider mud slinging though it is not) and cheap shots.
Mud slinging is the Democrat '04 campaign.
A Campaign I respect is the '04 Bush campaign. Fought on Principle, Character and Truth.
Klein's a liberal. He's not saying anything against her that would insult a fellow liberal. Think of it this way - let's say some conservative wrote a book about Bush and said he was a gun owner. And a liberal commented that allegations of gun ownership should be off the table because there were more fitting ways to take the man down. What the liberal wouldn't know is that gun ownership isn't a big "no no" among conservatives. And being a lesbian isn't a problem among liberals. Klein brings it up more as a way to explain the roots of her philosophical underpinnings. He doesn't imply that she has sex with other women - how would he know - but that radical lesbian thinking is part of who she is...
