While Anita van der Sloot had been allowed to visit her son occasionally in jail, authorities denied similar access to Paul van der Sloot, saying they believed contact between the two could damage the investigation. So he's been under suspicion for a while.

I'm reminded of the even more frustrating situation on Pitcairn Island last year - in a tiny community like this one, where almost everyone knows each other, justice becomes elusive when an outsider, or even an out-of-favor insider, is the victim.

I saw a snip of the interview Greta VanSusteren did with them this morning while getting ready for work. I noticed the father was dripping sweat and I thought perhaps the area they were in was un-air conditioned. But then I saw the mom and she looked as cool as a cucumber. I thought that seemed like he was acting guilty, but couldn't figure out what he'd have to be guilty about.

A child of the euroelite is in custody, and must be let loose whether or not he was involved.

I am very sympathetic to Natalee's parents, but I must say the suggestion that Aruba is not handling this well under THEIR laws is unwarranted. It is arrogant to go abroad and expect you can carry your own legal system with you, and as far as I can tell everyone there is doing their best to find her.

I kind of think tho, that most Americans would be aghast if they could be held for 160 days without being charged....

Unless you have first hand experience of what's going on there how can you say that? You don't know what kind of obstacles they are facing.

I understand that the Dutch teenager is your basic tennis bum, a rich kid who hustled the game at The Aruba Raquet Club and partied all night.
So family has connections in the community.

Have you notices how the Old Media Pundits and liberals in general are calling for the Aruba Police to furnish more information from these suspects, by whatever means it can to find this young woman.
Yet, call for the codling and sensitive treatment of our terrorist enemy combatants at Gitmo.

Arrogant? Maybe naieve. But it is not unreasonable to desire or even demand justice regardless of where you are.
