Well, it makes them more visible to traffic than if they wear grey suits.
To: Millee
If they want use the "MOTORWAY" they should meet the same standards that cars and trucks must meet and be licencensed, taxed and tagged. The operators should also be tested and licensed to operate out on the open MOTORWAY.

I just about ran several of the 'ride the rockies' cyclists over the other day. Watch for spandex speedbumps

A deer, cow, horse or illegal immigrant can still ruin your car and your day if you hit one.... I'd advise slowing down to a speed you can avoid them....

I personally love to ride bicycles. I do try to be as courteous as possible when it comes to cars and trucks on the road that I'm trying to share, I actully prefer off-road riding. But bicycle touring is a lot of fun. My honeymoon this fall is a trip to Ireland where bicycle touring is a large part of the fun.
Granted, there are those cyclists that can be rude. But by-and-far I've found just as many rude motorists. Then again, to be fair, I find the rude motorist to be far-and-wide between.
My $.02 for what it is worth...

In fact it irritates me almost as much as a bunch of fat, ignorant, lazy, idiots sitting around talking about making a hood ornament out of a cyclist just because they happen to be on "THEIR" road. Being on the road is fine. Just do the speed limit.
To: kozachka
Ummm, because they're smarter? Umm, the way most of them act as if they own the road, it doesn't seem to be the case. Two of them got killed nearby when a truck crested a hill with no time to avoid hitting them as they were riding in the middle of a state highway.
As for crotch rockets, there doesn't seem to be a lot to protect on most of them.

Well, I'm a 56 year old (That means I've had my drivers license for forty years) executive with a six figure income, not exactly a "Loser" and I ride my bike to work frequently to beat the traffic. I can ride in the bike lane and easily save twenty minutes on my sixteen mile round-trip commute, especially on Friday evening. We have a gym with showers at the salt mines and I keep a few changes of clothes in my office. Side benefit - 32 inch waist line and 48 BPM resting heart rate.
In my opinion, the losers are the fat a$$ed morons sitting in traffic burning gas and looking for parking spaces.

So what did the cop charge her with? Honking?
To: N. Theknow
Why do ALL bicycle riders wear helmets, but over half the folks who ride motorcycles wear a scarf or no headgear at all?A) Pedaling a bicycle pumps more blood to the brain. Therefore bicyclists are smarter.
B) Bicyclists tend to be sober when riding more often than motorcyclists, especially Harley riders, who tend more often to be under the influence of something or other.
C) Bicyclists are weenies.
NOTE: I earn my living in the motorcycle industry and own both a sport bike and a Harley. I also ride my GT mountain bike to work often. If you're are offended by the above humor; tough

Most cyclists are courteous and share the road with motorists, however, there is a sizable percentage that seem to think they own the road. There is a long stretch of hilly road I used to travel everyday to and from work and more often than not, I would top a hill to find bikers riding 3-4 abreast, taking up the entire lane.
There have been numerous occasions where I've had to swerve into the oncoming lane to avoid running over someone.
