White House Defends Rove 9/11 Remarks After Dems Demand Apology
AP ^ | June 23, 2005 | Bryce Mursch

The White House is rejecting Democratic demands that Karl Rove apologize for saying liberals meekly offered "therapy" for the terrorists as a response to 9/11.

Press Secretary Scott McClellan says President Bush's top political adviser was just "telling it like it is." Rove delivered his blast a few miles from Ground Zero in New York, at a Conservative Party dinner, he said liberals sought "understanding" for the attack and Democrats called for "moderation and restraint" while President Bush saw it for what it was: a declaration of war.

McClellan says Rove wasn't getting personal, just describing different philosophies.

Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean calls Rove's remarks "divisive and damaging." Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid says Rove should apologize, or resign.

At a Senate hearing on Iraq, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton called on military leaders to "immediately repudiate" what she called "an insulting comment."

Call on military leaders? I find this rather odd. The military is loathe to get involved in politics. It's not normally accepted. She should know this.

So, is this a TAT?

Are the Democrats now demanding a Rove apology because of their recent embarrassment over the Durbin apology?

About time some in the WH start firing back and reminding the American people the truth about the differences between Republicans and Democrats (when it comes to leadership in the GWOT).

It is pathetic how the WH and RNC have allowed the Democrats to set a new premise with regard to Iraq (and it not being a success or that we are losing!) - Nothing could be more wrong!

Yet there has been no intensity out of the WH or RNC to set the record straight about our amazing successes within Iraq (and the GWOT) over the past six months!

Our soldiers are putting on the line 24/7!! - The least they should be able to expect is that our WH and RNC will stand up and fight for them here, at least set the record straight about their successes and how we are winning!

Shameful the lack of any PR coming out of the WH and RNC.

Bravo to Rove for starting to fire back!

Wasn't Reid the tool that called the President a loser in front of some school children? You have to love the RATS. You resign first Reid and take YAAAAAAAAARRRRGHHHH boy with you.

Should have said "First Amendment. Next question." Shouldn't have even dignified the whinefest.

This was such an insightful strategic move by Carl Rove. He specifically addressed "Liberals" to call them out and tag them. Like the fools they are, they fell right into Carl's trap and outed themselves as "liberals". They are so ignorant. It's hilarious to observe.

Rove is having fun with them, they have been set up! I thought Hillary was moderate, not liberal! I think she has just been tripped and fallen on her face running to the center!

Rove said "liberals" not Democrats. Interesting that the leaders of the Dems are throwing such a fit over the truth...

EXCELLENT point!!!

Damn 'Rats and their sandbox politics. They know the Turban Durbin screwed the pooch and got his clocked clean, so now they're on a witch hunt to find an 'Ican with his foot in his mouth. Fortunately, 'Rats can't tell the difference between the truth and their anti-American version of fiction. This is actually sweet, as their demand just puts Rove's accurate characterization in the headlines and helps to convert more of the electorate to the 'Ican camp.

I love Dubya and Rove. True American patriots who will back our troops to the hilt, and fight our enemies -- both foreign and domestic. Kudos

Agree with you here -

Though what I think needs to happen is the WH and RNC need to stop with all the BS political moves and start just getting out there and telling the facts about Iraq and the GWOT!

I am sick and tired of hearing our amazing success in Iraq being torn down nightly and the WH is doing nothing to fight back! (while asking our troops to keep fighting 24/7!!).

Why should "military leaders" jump when you snap your fingers, Hil?

You think they're all Wesley Clark, or something?
