State Democrats are missing $900,000 [Dems cheat on payroll taxes!]

TALLAHASSEE -- Broke and without enough money in the bank to pay its bills after the end of the month, the Florida Democratic Party has now been slapped with a lien by the Internal Revenue Service for failing to pay payroll and Social Security taxes in 2003.

The state party's budget and finance committee voted Tuesday to ask for a new audit to account for more than $900,000 it thinks disappeared from the books during 2003 and 2004 when the party was led by Scott Maddox, who is now seeking its nomination for governor.

Maddox said Tuesday that he would accept responsibility for any errors made by either his staff or the auditing firm at the time he was chairman, said his campaign strategist, David Beattie of Fernandina Beach.

However, Maddox was not aware of the problems until Tuesday and thought the unaccounted $900,000 must be a bookkeeping matter rather than actual missing funds, Beattie said.

Karen Thurman, who became party chairwoman last month, could not be reached for comment.

"We're going to be on top of this a lot more than we were previously, not only in Scott's term of office, but Bob Poe's term in office," state party vice chairman Diane Glasser of Fort Lauderdale said Tuesday.

"We weren't getting all the information we should have been getting."

Maddox replaced Poe.

Glasser said she was confident the party would be able to meet its commitments.

"We've had these problems before," Glasser said...

Wonder if they'll have to count the money five time in order to get a positive balance.

Hmmm....Did they deduct the FICA and Medicare taxes from their liberal employees and spend it on "the cause"? Do the employees have a case against the party since their payroll taxes were squandered and not sent into the SS system?

Can you believe this is 1993 taxes, and they are just now coming around to dealing with them?

No kidding - withholding "irregularities" usually brings the feds down on the responsible parties like white on rice.

This is a big time no-no. (for normal people)

What gets me is no matter what the rats do, they always seem to get a pass. now if the RNC did something like that it would be page one in the NY Slimes and washingpost.

I know you're right .. but we have to realize that these actions have caused the 3 BIG networks to be about out of gas. Even Sam Donaldson said - "network news is dead".

So .. we just have to keep on doing what we know is right .. and while the dems are thinking they are gaining ground - they're really not.

After all the whining and hand wrining and committee hearings done by the dems .. only 20% of the public believes the terrorists in Gitmo are not treated good. That's a number the dems do not see .. because THEIR polls are so slanted they get the answers they want - instead of the truth. There's a big lesson in there somewhere!

Believe me .. military families will not forget Durbin's words.

I realize the life of stories like this is limited but like you said if just military families alone remember what Durbin said than that will do some good. I just get sooooo tired of the double standard between rats and us. They always get a pass, we never do. Thanks goodness for fr.
