Kennedy cousin William K. Smith, who has twice been cleared of rape charges, reportedly paid a six-figure out-of-court settlement to a third woman who claimed he’d sexually harassed her.
Laura Hamilton, who worked for Smith’s Chicago-based Center for International Rehabilitation from 1997 to 2003, filed a 40-page complaint against Smith that, had he not settled, would have landed in U.S. District Court.
Hamilton alleged that Smith – Sen. Ted Kennedy’s nephew - repeatedly touched her, kissed her and massaged her, and that when she was pregnant she had to barricade herself in a bedroom to escape his advances.
Her complaint – which appeared on thesmokinggun.com, a website operated by Court TV – charged that after her baby was born, she finally gave in and slept with Smith during a trip to Croatia in 2002 because she wanted to keep her job. She said the experience left her feeling "degraded and humiliated.”
Hamilton’s complaint states that when she was seven months pregnant, she attended a UNICEF conference in New York and the Center for International Rehabilitation – a group that aids landmine victims – arranged for her to stay in an empty apartment owned by Smith’s mother, Jean Kennedy Smith.
Smith came to the apartment, tried to kiss her, rubbed her belly and "stuck his tongue in her ear,” according to the complaint.
Hamilton claimed she fled and barricaded her door, and the next day Smith told her "it was all [he] could do not to come in [her room] last night.”
She also said Smith made frequent comments to her about how pregnant woman "glowed” and were "irresistible.”
In 1991, Smith was acquitted of raping a woman he picked up in a Palm Beach, Fla., bar after a night of drinking with his uncle Ted.
During the trial three women said they were ready to testify that Smith assaulted them in the 1980s, but their testimony was not allowed.
In January, Smith prevailed in a civil case brought by his former personal assistant Audra Soulias, who claimed he sexually assaulted her after a night of drinking in 1999.
In her complaint, Hamilton alleges that Smith "raped” Soulias at his Chicago townhouse.
I did a lot of research on this years ago (before the internet existed). If you want some really good information, go to a library and get old copies of "Time" and "Newsweek" from July, 1969. They both had a lot of great quotes from people familiar with the incident, plus, you will be shocked to find out how unbiased these magazines were 35 years ago.
Sexual assault tendances appear to be firmly entrenched in the Kennedy family's jeans.

I did the same thing too, and then re-read the articles on this site and it reminded me of the affair.
The two guys that Kennedy spoke to after the incident, Joe Gargan and Paul Markham, the two lawyers were ordered not to speak to anyone regarding the incident as Kennedy maintained attorney client privilige with the two.
What happened to these guys? I mean they were livid about Kennedy not reporting the accident. Kennedy on the other hand, according to them, went to his hotel room and expected by the next morning that Gargan and Markham had "taken care" of things.
The water six feet deep and almost completely submerged. There was a strong current from the river...I don't think most people would have the presence of mind, if upside down, to roll down the window and climb out...esp with water coming in...

Yes, initally he did do this, but he came out much later with his side when many in the Kennedy camp were blaming him and Markham for not protecting the Senator, ie having the party in the first place, and letting him drink too much etc.
This is why I ask the question, what happened to them, as they were really the only people who actually knew what had happened.
If I had his kind of money and I was innocent...I would spend every single, last dime to exonerate myself and restore the name of myself and my family. There is NO WAY I would pay those kinds of settlements if I were innocent. Who would? Why give money to someone if the allegations are not true? Why would you take money away from yourself or your family and give it to someone if you were truly innocent?????????????????????
