An elderly San Francisco man and a parolee remained jailed today after a bizarre road-rage incident on the Embarcadero left an innocent jogger shot in the ankle.

The incident began when 73-year-old motorist Jon Ek honked at a bicyclist riding erratically on Tuesday night. Police later identified the cyclist as parolee Damien Silva, 30, said Lt. Leroy Lindo of the San Francisco of the SFPD's General Work investigations unit.

The motorist continued on and stopped at Brannan Street on the Embarcadero at about 7:15 p.m., Lindo said. Silva then rode up and hurled his bike at Ek's Dodge Neon

Silva sounds like one of SF's hypoCRITICALMASSholes. What a shame that Ek hit an innocent bystander.

From what I remember about driving in San Fran, you're expected to honk your horn if you see a red car or if the song changes on your radio. Seemed that way to me, anyway.

I lived in SF or Frisco (the locals hate it when you call it that) and many, if not all the "cyclists" there are a bunch of smug, self-righteous, lecturing, hectoring road hogs.

Actually not just the ones in Frisco, most if not all the ones with their tight little Spandex shorts, helmets, special shoes, etc. are that way.

They think they're superior because they're "saving the environment" and you're a pig for driving a car. It's the only identity or life that they've got.

EK should have used a bigger gun and aimed better.

there was an ahole on a bike, breaking the traffic laws, he honked, then was attacked by the law breaking biker...... So he shot him.... I see no problem.

It would have been nicer if he had hit the guy he was aiming at and not plugged the passer-by. ;-)
This could be called a lack of "gun control".

I Agree ...

I lived in Santa Cruz for 5 years. The cyclysts were road pigs. Demanding every right of way, however they would NEVER stop for a stop sign. I nearly hit one at a 4 way stop when he did not stop.

Adult men riding bikes, (not mountain or racing bikes), are 90% of the time parolees, (they don't have DL's.)

Actually, I wear the spandex shorts (they have special pads in them), helmets are required by law, and the special shoes go with the special pedals to keep your feet on the pedals. The pedal/shoe combination also allows you to generate more power, as you can pull up as well as push down. I draw the line at the $150 jerseys, however. A t-shirt is fine.

I ride for the exercise, and the pleasure of riding. Sometimes I ride to work, sometimes not. I don't do it because I'm "saving the environment", I do it because I like it. You can also make better time in rush hour in Seattle on a bike than you can in a car.

Not everybody on a bike is an eco-wacko.

That is why in the South mopeds are called liquor sickles.

Well put! Don't forget the last Friday of every month in S.F. when the "critical mass" rides blocks auto and pedestrian traffic for hours.

If you follow various links to and from "critical mass" for indy media etc, you realize that these people are all leftist fruitcakes.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Lol! A few years back, a guy showed up in our neighborhood. He just got out of the joint. Dontre or Juwantrae or whatever the hell his name was, was living at his "cousin's" house.

He'd peddle his bike around , sometimes drinking the proverbial 40 oz malt liquor.

Being an enterprising sort of chap, he'd mow lawns in the neighborhood. Funny enough, the 10-14 year old boys in the neighborhood got together and complained that he was stealing their business. The guy actually was apologetic and stopped mowing lawns. Not long after that he disappeared, probably due to a parole violation would be my guess.
