Sen. Richard J. Durbin yesterday said he was "sorry" after parsing words for a week about his remarks comparing U.S. interrogators at Guantanamo Bay to those of Nazi and Soviet regimes. He apologized on the Senate floor.
"I'm sorry if anything that I said caused any offense or pain to those who have such bitter memories of the Holocaust, the greatest moral tragedy of our time," said Mr. Durbin, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate.

The only thing he's sorry about is that he got called on it. Censure the SOB!
Hopefully Illinois can put a conservative in the senate next time around.

Here's an Anti-American Iraqi blog that has it mentioned. MOre importantly many pictures and comments of Dem Congressman and Senators. This site gives perfect example of how these Anti-AMerican dems are aiding and abetting the enemy!!! Something needs to be done about this and they need to be held accountable. Also read the comments on each article. Warning, it will piss you off!!

Why are conservative media outlets like Foxnews and the Washington Times letting Durbin off the hook with this? My summary of his "apology" speech is: "I'm sorry some people misinterpreted my statements". That is NOT an apology.

I wonder about Fox and the Times also.
Frist did say that Dirtbin's floor statement "was a necessary and appropriate step".That's an interesting choice of words that at least implies Frist has more in mind.

If you want to know why he really apologized, look no further than Mayor Daley. He needs Daley's support to get elected, interesting his apology comes shortly after this aired on CBS in Chicago.
Daley: Durbin Should Apologize For Guantanamo Comments
Jun 21, 2005 3:16 pm US/Central
CHICAGO (CBS 2) Mayor Daley says it's time for Senator Dick Durbin to apologize for comparing U.S. soldiers to Nazis and the Guantanamo Bay prison to a Soviet gulag.
Durbin's fighting words were meant for republicans, but now he's feeling the heat from a fellow democrat whose support he can't do without.
If you really believe those men and women in Guatamano Bay are Nazis, then you'd better rethink what America's all about, Mayor Daley said.
Daley's reaction was harsh, but with a son in the Army and potentially heading to war, maybe not such a surprise.
Durbin, as the number two leader among senate democrats, launched his rhetorical strike last week.
Durbin's remarks were calculated to rev-up dems by bashing the Bush administration's treatment of Iraqi prisoners. It may have backfired.
Well, I think it's a disgrace and he's a good friend of mine but I think it's a disgrace to say that any man or woman in the military acts like that, or that report is like that. You go and talk to some victims of the Holocaust and they will tell you horror stories and there are not horror stories like that in Guatamano Bay, Daley said.
Durbin attempted a near apology on Friday by issuing a statement on his website saying "I sincerely regret if what I said caused anyone to misunderstand my true feelings... our country's standing in the world community has been badly damaged by the prison abuses at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo."

Thanks for the links!
That Lincoln quote is dynamite.I showed it to my liberal neighbor today after explaining to him that Dirtbin likes to quote Lincoln.
My neighbor says (in his liberal way) "Do you really think he ought to be hung?".I said "It doesn't matter what I think, I just thought you'd like to know what Lincoln thinks".I wish I had a picture of his expression to show you!HeHe!

The only thing he's sorry about is that he got called on it. Censure the SOB! I have some very sturdy huge oak trees and some strong rope. Now, all we need is a proper trial.

This is not really an apology.
What we really need to do is demand that the FBI agent who supposedly wrote the document Durbin claims he was reading from be FIRED.

I think that durbin should be removed from his position in the Senate until we see the document he was referring to. We want to see the documents before you are reappointed....Oh, wait, only dimocrats can use that tactic.

That was an apologia, NOT an apology.

While "apologizing" he couldn't help bad mouthing the President's foreign policy, "critics including Secretary of State Colin Powell.." Also, he never came right out and said I'm sorry for what I said. There was a lot of talk about my words being "misunderstood". When someone apologizes, you should not have to figure it out, you should not have to parse his words, and you do not bad mouth someone while apologizing. After watching his "apology" I think even less about this anti-American. Senator Turban go away.

That is my take on Frist's comment also. I hope he is considering "censure."
I still find it mind-boggling that the "Rats" were all hanging tough and not condemning Durbin for his traitorous remarks. I know most of them are "American hating" scum but politically it was very stupid of them to let this festure for so long. Maybe their blind-hatred clouded their judgement?

"Now, all we need is a proper trial."
Where in Lincoln's quote does it mention a trial? ;-)
