PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) member Chris Link of Norfolk, Va., top, adjusts the cellophane covering on the costume of demonstrator Dezeray Rubinchik of Philadelphia, top right, during a protest in front of the Statehouse, in Providence, R.I. The protest, in which three people placed themselves in containers resembling supermarket meat trays, was meant to compare eating meat with cannibalism. AHOSKIE, North Carolina (AP) -- Two employees of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have been charged with animal cruelty after dumping dead dogs and cats in a shopping center garbage bin, police said. Investigators staked out the bin after discovering that dead animals had been dumped there every Wednesday for the past four weeks, Ahoskie police said in a prepared statement Thursday. PETA has scheduled a news conference for Friday in Norfolk, Virginia, where the group is based. Police found 18 dead animals in the bin and 13 more in a van registered to PETA. The animals were from animal shelters in Northampton and Bertie counties, police said. The two were picking up animals to be brought back to PETA headquarters for euthanization, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk said Thursday. Neither police nor PETA offered any theory on why the animals might have been dumped. Police charged Andrew Benjamin Cook, 24, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Adria Joy Hinkle, 27, of Norfolk, Virginia, each with 31 felony counts of animal cruelty and eight misdemeanor counts of illegal disposal of dead animals. They were released on bond and an initial court date was set for Friday. Hinkle has been suspended, but Cook continues to work PETA, Newkirk said. Newkirk said she doubted Hinkle had ever been cruel to an animal and said if the animals were placed in the bin, "We will be appalled."

Too bad the shrink wrap wasn't tighter around the head.
Whatever they are charging per pound on the package - it's too much.
Feeding time at the zoo?
Is not USDA aproved packaging, and the meat would not pass inspection. It needs a good cleaning, butt stamp, and cut into smaller portions with less fat.
Wouldn't ATEP object to this packaging?
(Animals for the Ethical Treatment of People)
FINALLY! A good use for Petapunks! Kill'em, package'em and FEED THEM TO ANIMALS IN THE POUNDS!
I'd ask if there was any hungry lions we could feed this meat to, but I wouldn't want the lions to get sick.
Perhaps there are some convenient hyenas or wild dogs about?
PETA, the Al Sharpton of animal rights. $27 million a year they take in, yet all I ever see from them is protests and crime.
So how much is a package that size of pig crap these days?
Good specimens for performing the nuc treatment on.
Nam Vet
Still one of their more cunning stunts.
"makes pretend"? What are they made of, then?
Hmmmmmm!
Well........Everybody has to be someplace and shrink wrap along with cages is just fine with me for the PETA types.
They are pod people.
