NICOSIA (Reuters) - A snake handler in Cyprus was fighting for his life Tuesday after a king cobra bit the hand that fed him, authorities said.
The hooded snake bit his master when the man, 43, stuck his hand into a cage holding food at a traditional Cypriot religious festival attended by thousands of people Monday evening.
Poison from the king cobra, the longest venomous snake in the world, is highly toxic and can kill within minutes. The man was taken to a hospital where he was placed on a ventilator.
Attacks by king cobras, indigenous to the Indian sub continent and southeast Asia, are rare. Researchers say they strike only if they feel threatened.

Any snake handler should know that you NEVER hand feed a snake. Once you get the prey scent on your hands, you cannot count on the animal knowing the difference.
Even my daughter knows that, and she's only six.

That saying, "bites the hand that feeds them". Had never thought of that as applied to politicians, but it sure is true!

The pic is from Animal Planet's "In Search of the King Cobra." The dude holding it is Austin Stevens. Hamadryads can reach prodigious size ....the longest captured was 18 feet. Mull on that.

Bravo... thanks a lot... i think having these "pets" in Gitmo is the most effective way to convince the "towelheads" that we're not kidding...

I had to learn the hard way when my son's 6' monitor lizard took a nice size bite out of my hand, right after I had just finished off a Big Mac with cheese...
I thought the damn lizard was just being friendly when he kept licking my hand with forked tounge of his.

I'd play on the fears of that Gitmo scum until they were pleading to tell me where One-Eye Omar was! They'd be begging to tell when I was through with them.

This is the second time I've seen your daughter's picture posted.
She is beautiful and you and the missus are very lucky.
May happiness be with you always.

I'm not sure how this one is decked out - found the photo at the following website:
Telstar Mustang - Shelby - Cobra Museum
Evidently, they rebuild them to customer specs. Looks like they have a lot of neat ones ready to go.
My brother bought his son a '70 Cobalt Blue Boss 328 for his Sr year in HS - it's a really sweet car.

Met a guy "Thai" at the Pasteur Institute Cobra Farm in Bangkok back in the '60's - bit in the thumb by a King and survived because they make anti-venom serum on-site and it was administered to him within minutes of the bite. He had constant pain in his thumb to that day - always blamed himself for the bite - not the snake - he got lazy (familarity) in handling it.
