A Republican congressman from Indiana created an uproar in the House on Monday by accusing the Democrats of being anti-Christian.
"Like a moth to a flame, Democrats can't help themselves when it comes to denigrating and demonizing Christians," said Rep. John Hostettler.
Hostettler made the remark during debate over a proposal introduced by Democrats that would have put the House on record as opposing "coercive and abusive religious proselytizing" at the Air Force Academy.
According to the Washington Post, Hostettler claimed that "the long war on Christianity in America continues today on the floor of the House of Representatives" and "continues unabated with aid and comfort to those who would eradicate any vestige of our Christian heritage being supplied by the usual suspects, the Democrats."
The congressman's remarks infuriated Democrats, who demanded that Hostettler withdraw his statement. The imbroglio broke out while the House conducted an otherwise routine debate on a $409 billion spending bill to fund the Pentagon budget and provide an additional $45 billion for the war in Iraq.
The dispute brought House business to a halt for about 45 minutes, when Hostettler agreed to retract his remarks. The Democratic proposal on the Air Force Academy was defeated.
The House instead approved by voice vote a Republican plan requiring an Air Force report to Congress on the steps it was taking to promote religious tolerance.
At issue was how Congress should respond to allegations of proselytizing and favoritism for Christians at the Air Force Academy...
"Like a moth to a flame, Democrats can't help themselves when it comes to denigrating and demonizing Christians," said Rep. John Hostettler.
Demoncrats are anti-Christian in their values and beliefs.
Too bad, if it hurts their feewlings.
Hostettler speaks the truth and the dims castigate him. Durtbin makes seditious comments and the dims circle the wagons. SOP.
If the horns fit...
Posting a pro-American post over there will elicit the same reaction.
I grew up with the saying, the truth hurts. The only difference is the truth used to hurt the person not telling the truth, now, it seems the MSN little feelings are hurt, too. Wah!!
You beat me.
A "balanced" article would have sought an interview from the congressman, giving him the opportunity to defend his statement.
There is no discussion of what comments the Democrats made in hyping their piece of legislation nor the details of that policy.
Sad but true.
Libs are very thin-skinned - methinks they do protest too much. Hostettler was saying what a lot of people know to be true. It doesn't matter that he agreed to "retract" his remarks (you can't unring a bell), because the important thing is the following:
". . . The Democratic proposal on the Air Force Academy was defeated.
The House instead approved by voice vote a Republican plan requiring an Air Force report to Congress on the steps it was taking to promote religious tolerance."
The Dems' attempt to restrict religion expression was DEFEATED, and the Republican plan was APPROVED. At least I hope this is what this means.
Find me one liberal who attends church regularly. And I don't mean attending a liberal church that totally ignores the Bible and Ten Commandments (like all the Catholic churches where I live). Find me one.
I see the media and the dem's making him apologize as they go merrily on there way.
"Not all Democrats are anti-Christian, but many are...it's the truth that the Dems are complaining about"
True, but Dem's who are pro-Christian are conservative in their values and are usually Christians themselves. The liberal wing of the party are enemies of the cross of Christ and traitors to the Republic.
Who? Us? The Democrats? Anti-Christian? Surely you jest. And your name is shirley isn't it?
And the Democrats wonder why they can't win at the ballot.
This is so true and, there are examples after examples to prove it. I hope that whoever runs against UpChuck Schumer would use this fact against him. He is one of the most blatant anti-Christian and anti-Catholic Senators in Washington, especially when it comes to judges. Although he will most likely win - he needs to be banged up on this topic.
Also - watch for the MSM to attempt to use these remarks to replace TurbinDurbin's remarks this week.
dems react negatively to the truth!
