On this day in:
1993: lighting hit the CB antennae on a motor home as it was traveling down I-15 S of Beaver , UT, causing the driver's side front tire to catch fire, blowing out the other tires, and damaging the vehicle's auxilary gnerator. Although the lone occupant was unhurt, the CB antennae did melt as a result of the strike.
1996: Wonder if they could taste it. Strong NW gradient winds to 60 mph picked up clouds of dust/salt from the salt flats/deserts near UT's Great Salt Lake and the NW deserts of the state. Truckers reported reduced visibilities along I-80 due to blowing salt.
2005: Summer began at 2:45 A.M. EDT.

FWIW this pic was reduced by about 2/3rds !!!

Historical factoid: While working on the Empire State Building, construction workers sometimes reported getting struck by seeds from grain that was carried on the wind from the Midwest.
Yep--that's a tornado all right! And, it's also a darn good photo! Did you take it?
Did that lower the severity of the tornado?
Tonight is the equinox. I don't know exactly when the equinox happens, but the city stays up all night tonight. There would be 30,000 people downtown with all kinds of touristy activities and there is a baseball game, minor league, played at midnight--no lights. The days begin getting shorter.
Solstice
No I did not take it, alfa6 has more sense than to chase after whirling dervishes :-)
basil, some one posted about a dozen or so weather picks to the misc. binaries newsgroup a while back and I thought they were pretty cool so I saved them.

Tnx. I don't keep in close enough touch with my wicca friends. Getting rusty on their nomenclature.
