Thanks, SD, for the ping.

Hillary will condemn Durbin's words, but will do so in a mealy-mouthed way.

Time to freep Dicky Durbin...?

Here is a copy of the text of an email I sent out this morning to 'a few close friends'...:
******************************

My dear departed Grandmother, born in Illinois, is undoubtedly rolling over in her grave about now.   ...Too bad she's not still around to help the errant Dick Durbin clean up his act.

U.S. Senator Richard Durbin, the Democrat from Illinois, is still in the news for embarrassing himself,  his home state, and his party, with his outrageous comparison of the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo to the Soviet Gulags under Stalin, the Death Camps under Hitler, and the Killing Fields of Cambodia under the murderous dictator Pol Pot.

Such outrageous statements by our 'representatives', do nothing for America, or Americans, but instead serve to aid and comfort our enemies.  Allowing them to claim the truth of Durbin's lies, provides political cover for them to further their goals, to kill or maim as many American Service men and women as possible.

Here is some background on Durbin's false statements...
"According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, some 15 million to 30 million prisoners died in the Soviet gulags. By comparison, Guantanamo at its peak held 750 prisoners; currently, there are 520; none have died in captivity, and, as I wrote 3-1/2 years ago, it has the distinction of being 'a camp where the medical staff outnumber the prisoners.' You'll get swifter, cleaner and more efficient treatment (there) than most Canadians do under socialized health care. It's the only gulag in history where the detainees leave in better health and weighing more than when they arrive.   This means they're in much better shape when they get back to their hectic schedule of killing infidels:  Of the more than 200 who've been released, around 5 percent -- that's to say, 12 -- have since been recaptured on the battlefield." --Mark Steyn

"Of course, we could close Guantanamo, but if you actually support the war on terror you must recognize that we would still need someplace like it. A rose by any other name and all that. We can't summarily execute every al-Qa'ida member we capture. Not just because that would raise legitimate moral and legal problems, but because we can't win unless we interrogate these guys. Senator Joe Biden said that while we should close Gitmo and release the occupants, we should also 'keep those we have reason to keep.' Huh? ... Imagine if, instead of Gitmo, the issue was the death penalty. 'The death penalty should be abolished, but let's execute the folks there's a reason to execute.' ... Any new Gitmo would quickly gain the same reputation as the old one because a) al-Qa'ida is under strict orders to allege all manner of abuses for propaganda purposes, especially now that such tactics have proved so useful, and b) because the 'international community' and other lovers of runny cheese desperately want such allegations to be true, regardless of the evidence. That the head of Amnesty International could call Gitmo, where we spend more money on the care and feeding of detainees than we do on our own troops, the 'Gulag of our time' is all the evidence we need for that. Caving into such bullying would send the unmistakable message that America can be rolled. ...[C]aving into a defamation campaign in order to please those who cannot be pleased and aiding those who must not be aided is no way to support the war on terror or prevent more victims." --Jonah Goldberg

To date, the recalcitrant Dick Durbin has steadfastly refused to retract, or even to apologize for his seditious statements, which have only served to further endanger Americans, and American service personnel, serving abroad.

If you think the Senator needs our encouragement to 'do the right thing' in this matter, you can contact him directly at his offices:
DC office: 202-224-2152
Chicago office: 312-353-4942
Perhaps, if enough outraged Americans call, he'll have that much-needed 'moment of clarity', so sorely lacking in his statements so far...

Time to get those hearings started.   The 'intake hopper' is already filling up.   ...Clinton ...Hillary ...Kerry ...and now Durbin.
...with still more waiting in the wings. ...Kennedy ...Leahy ...etc.
