Heinz reaches for the Worcestershire Lea & Perrins sauce among brands Heinz will acquire from France's Danone in $855M deal. June 20, 2005: 8:07 AM EDT
NEW YORK/LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. food giant H.J. Heinz has agreed to buy Danone's UK-based HP Foods business for about $855 million, in a deal that puts Lea & Perrins sauces under the same roof as its own Heinz Ketchup.
The Pittsburgh-based company said on Monday the cash purchase would help it focus more around four core areas comprising condiments, meals and snacks, infant nutrition and food services, while France's Danone said it would focus almost exclusively on water, yogurts and biscuits.
Analysts said Heinz (Research) was buying a collection of largely UK domestic brands such as HP and Daddies sauces, with only Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce a truly global brand.
"It's a highly profitable business and will fit well with Heinz, but it's not a top-notch price because it's not a top notch business," said analyst David Lang at Investec Securities.

There's no substitute for Lea & Perrins
I just checked in my fridge - the worcestershire sauce I've got in there is the supermarket's brand - it's half the price of Lee & Perrins and tastes exactly the same.
A-1, but that's a Kraft product. Kraft supports the Gay Games and is affiliated with groups that think everyone who isn't gay is an extremist.
Really? I was just about to say, what's next, no A-1?
Why switch? That wench who married John Kerry has nothing to do with the company. All of the company's top executives vocally supported the President's reelection.
Despite the wicked witch of Heinz, the whole board donates to Republicans. So, if you can't go without Lea & Perrins, you have that comfort.
I just realized you were asking about worcestershire sauce, not steak sauce.
Emily Litella - "Nevermind"
Because a good deal of her wealth and the wealth of the Heinz foundations that she runs comes from their stake in Heinz stock.
French's makes Worcesteshire sauce, but if somebody digs enough, there's probably a reason to boycot it, too. Besides, it doesn't taste as good as Lea & Perrins.
But it's still damn near impossible to pronounce 'Worcestershire'.
If'n it is that important to you then make your own.... self reliance.

I second that on Kraft - Kraft is a HUUUUUUUUUGE supporter of homosexual pervertism and is an anti-family company.
I have basic taste and love Garlic, onions, pepper and such!

Strangely enough, I found the store brand to be as good as the old favorite and much cheaper. The bottle says distributed by IGA.
probably packaged by Lee & Perrins.
I checked the label because I had the exact same thought, but it doesn't say. It just says "distributed by Food Lion"
Not only that, but the parent company, Altria, is also a supporter of higher consumer taxes and is very anti-private property rights.
