Someone asked her mother if she had run away before and I thought she said no. Sounds like they are trying to discredit the family to make up for their own negligence on the case.

I think her mother did say no.

Also heard 2 of N's friends on Fox the other night, both of whom were on the trip. One of them said N would never have gone off with 3 guys like that. The other friend said when he last saw N at the bar, she was drinking responsibly.

I don't know if you ever found Joran's webpage but here is a link to the cache.

I get the feeling that these threats are the general tone of this island and perhaps the reason why the four suspects are terrified.

i think if aruba's "skin" was to be pulled back and all exposed, it would be pretty frightening..

Yes, it reminds me of the movie "Alien" (I believe that was it) where the aliens lived inside beautiful human bodies. There was a scene where one pulled back his human skin, and the ugliness was revealed. Just like Aruba.

Now, I know there are these crimes everywhere. But Aruba is claiming "No crimes, ... just a peaceful little island...etc." I am sick of their constant attempts at PR vs their minimal focus on finding Natalee, and the truth about Natalee, and keeping her family in the dark.

This is pure spin. At this point they are throwing anything and everything against the wall, like spaghetti, to see if it will stick. CYA mode.

Aruba and Grand Cayman (where my daughter resides) are the same size and I know I could find my daughter on that island or find out what happened to her.

Natalee's mother will find her if she's to be found -- Beth said she is not going away. I think she'll spend the rest of her life on Aruba looking for Natalee if she has to.

I wonder if the Arubans know what a steel magnolia is. They're going to find out.

I think Natalee died in his apartment and the father was an accomplish.

Do you think that LE and the crime scene investigators were at Joran's apartment long enough for them to search and gather samples of suspected evidence?

That probably makes as much sense as anything else. A possibility.

At the risk of being flamed, I have to say, too, that the (unsubstantiated) reports that she may have run away at other locales bothers me somewhat.

She seems like an exemplary young lady -- but none of us really knows her. I'm always a bit wary of anyone who seems absolutely "perfect."

Wilbanks seemed to have it all and a flawless reputation -- at first. No one in the early days she went missing would have guessed she would pull such a scam.

I'm certainly not saying her case applies to Natalee Holloway, but the fact is, we don't know all the facts about her life.

Another good possibility. We are all going crazy with theories. I wonder how many of them the Arubian police/govt. are considering?

Personally, IMHO, I still think that "Lorenzo" fellow who supposedly had Natalee in his basement ( news we got from a post by an Arubian citizen...somewhere on the first thread) is a key. Supposedly Lorenzo is the (illegitimate?) son of P. van der Sloot from a previous relationship with a woman on the island. That woman married and her husband committed suicide. However, there is also suspicion that he was murdered.

Lorenzo was brought in for questioning and then let go. Shortly after Crues was named, and now he is being held. Did Lorenzo "finger" Crues? Seems funny the two were brought in so close together.

It seems papa VDS has had some unusual acquaintances either in his past or presently. Very possible he is in on/knows of what happened to Natalee.

She questions why a father would not have better control over a 17 year old son's activities on a school night.

Might have something to do with the fact that Joran apparently does not even live under the same roof as his parents, but in an apartment attached to their house. A 17 y.o. boy -- if that isn't asking for trouble.

We can conclude that's why they were there. But I'm not sure what they could have come up with since the apt. was probably sanitized considering the length of time that transpired.

I'm thinking that he took Natalee to his private apt, and told her he would drive her back to the hotel (he had a car). It doesn't add up that the brothers just dropped them off by the light house or some other place and left them to fend for themselves.

They are all lieing. We're thinking beach...because they wanted us to.

VERY typical to blame the victim and/or her parents.

Requesting that the parents take polygraph tests would be more like SOP in an investigation in the US. One of the first steps in an investigation involving kids is to rule out the parents as suspects.

One of the things that I find a bit curious and in need of explanation is that the parents hopped a corporate jet & arrived in Aruba very soon after Natalie went missing, conducted an independent investigation &, apparently, did not contact the Aruban police until something like 10 pm.

I can certainly understand the urge to get on the scene as quickly as possible and doing some independent nosing around. What I find a bit unusual is the private jet and the delay in notifying authorities.

All of this may have been explained & I missed it. That said, explanations need verification, something a polygraph would help with.

Another question I have is what company supplied the jet & what the parents/ stepdad do for a living & is there a possible connection?

Interesting theory, sw. It might explain why the 3 seem to be confused about who was dropped off first, and did they leave N at the hotel, and did one of the brothers leave the group before the others.

Varina...if Wilbank's family had been upfront, we would have known she had a case of cold feet before, not to mention Jennifer had a few thefts she was picked up for. She wasn't lily white.

In the interest of Natalee's character, I'd be curious to know if she slept around at all. While this may seem to be an insulting question, it would go far to explain her willingness to have a one night stand. I don't think she was loose. So it would help.

From Websleuths:
Early TV news here said Sen Shelby, AL, and another senator (didn't catch his name) now getting involved with disappearance, hope that will make some difference in the "investigation." AL recently got over $1 million from federal gov for their violence against women program. Three weeks now since Natalee disappeared.

Good Lord, I never thought of your scenario. And he could have emailed and later called from the beach after the body was gone.

Wow,,incredible speculation.

Thanks.

Paul VDS had everything to lose if his son had a dead body on his hands. Aruba LE just may be on to this or our FBI.

But then again...I could be wrong about the apt :)

SW, I really believe Natalee is/was a very nice, sweet teenage girl, but I know many, many nice, sweet teenage girls who nevertheless sow a few oats now and then before they get on with their lives.

Nothing she could have done is reason for her to be harmed in any way. Have to wonder though, if such a "perfect" person, possibly had some stress issues maintaining that image.

Read somewhere on these threads that she and her family were well traveled. So that makes me think this probably wasn't her first encounter with lifestyles outside Birmingham.

You don't have to be perfect to not be a runaway.

I am not flaming you but what is "too perfect" about her. She drinks, she flirts, she makes good grades and is going to college. Sounds like alot of kids I know.

Parents know if they have a runaway daughter at age 17. And if she were a runaway with those boys helping, they would have talked by now, believe me. The runaway scenario is their way of looking for an out so everyone will go home and years from now say "oh that runaway girl in Aruba" while they book trips to Aruba.
