Please add me to your earthquake ping list. Seems like it might be high volume for a bit. Thanks.

Is there any credible data somehow interlinking the 8.2 New Zealand quake shortly before after the massive earthquake & Tsunami, plus this most recent rash of strong earthquakes from Chile, to California & Japan?

I was in the northern part of Honshu in the early 80's when a quake in the 5 range hit. The ground was rolling and believe me, I WAS impressed. The power lines were swaying back and forth, and the ground waves were similar to what someone on a surfboard might feel gowing outwards to the sea. When the locals asked me what I thought about it, I dold them it was fun. They thought I was crazy.

"I just hope the Palm Springs area stays quiet on wed, due to my dads delicate surgery." We pray everything remains peaceful for that entire area, and the surgery is a total success with a speedy recovery.

Not really.
This Japanese quake was revised down to a 5.7 anyway; there are 4 5+ magnitude quakes a day worldwide.

Any type of surgery dealing with the cervical/neck region must be proceeded with very capable hands, thus your father should be fine.

No. This is the start of some major earth changes. The magnetic north pole is moving 4 times faster than it was ten years ago. That means something big has happened in the core. Probably enough Plutonium 239 has been produced to increase the power output from the fision reactor that is the earth's core. Also, the Sun is more active than it should be for this point in the 11 year solar cycle, but then we did have a double peak this time around.
However, most folks will tell you this is just tin-foil hat stuff, and things will be just fine. ;-)

is this normal seismic activity? Yes. Pretty much normal on planet earth. Not to say the apocalypse isn't upon us anyway.

Why does no one question that off-the-cuff remark that the molten iron of the earth's interior produces the magnetic field?
The magnetic pole wanders over a region 500 miles across and can move 200 miles in an hour. However, the earth is not a simple bar magnet and the local magnetic field anywhere can change and even change its alignment independently of the location of the magnetic north pole.
