1938: As the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific train No. 13 (the Olympian) passed over a bridge that crossed Custer Creek (near Miles City, MT), the bridge collapsed. One of the train's tourist sleeper cars became totally submerged in the rain-runoff swollen creek. There were 48 fatalities and 64 injuries.
1972: The left-coast was paid a visit by hurricane Agnes. The storm moved onshore near Cape San Blas, FL with gusts to 80 mph; its remnants exited ME on 26th leaving $2.1 billion destruction in its wake. There were 120 fatalities, mainly from flooding from NC to NY. 19" rain fell on far western Schuykill County PA.
1992: Wichita and SC KS got more than they bargained for with midday thunderstorms leaving quite a mark. 70 people were treated for minor injuries resultant to softball sized hail and flying glass that accompanied it. 377,000 acres of crops were damaged/destroyed. Storm costs were assessed at $600 million.

1972 Agnes. I remember this one. It was the first time I begin to pay attention to the weather on TV. Harold Taff, Channel 5 Weatherman. I sign of aging I suppose. (12 yo)

I picked up about a dozen weather pics a while back just because I thought they were cool looking. Will post the tornado pics over the next few weeks!
I wish I knew more about how to interpert them.
