CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- Two police chiefs, frustrated by what they claim is the government's failure to pursue illegal immigrants, are taking a novel approach to homeland security: using a trespassing law to arrest undocumented immigrants.
W. Garrett Chamberlain pioneered the tactic in New Ipswich and Hudson chief Richard Gendron enthusiastically joined in.
Both say they are helping to prevent another Sept. 11.
"What do you do?" Gendron said recently. "As a law enforcement officer, I have a difficult time with someone who's not supposed to be in this country. If we're really, truly concerned about homeland security, this is one of the areas we have to give attention to."

Wish the US Congress wake up and smell the manure they've been shoveling and give the INS more resources to do their job.
To: lilylangtree
Amen...but the problem is, that some of those shoveling their own manure actually think it smells sweet and see nothing wrong with it. As Andrew Jackson said, IMHO its time to "route those vipers out" of the capitol and vote in those with a finer sense of smell

Actually I think its pretty smart of the Bush Admin. to be AWOL in this issue..
Then the RNC has an excuse when they take a "dive" in the 2008 elections..
It IS Hillarys "turn"...
You DO know Jeff; that a RINO will be selected to run don't you.?.
Not everyone was asleep when Bush "dissed" Toomey and came out for Spectre..
I have it right here in my notepad.. Bush is a moderate democrat.. like any other RINO.. and not a republican at all..
What the hell does "I'm a Unite'er not a Divide'er" mean anyways.. Neville Chamberlain even, would not have "outed" himself with such a lame cliche'.. And the entire RNC remains clueless.. unless they are complicit.

"I beleive the first report was a seperate incident..." Thanks for the clarification, and while I appreciate you taking the time to clear up the clouds of my confusion, it's my deepest hope that we'll soon be getting a whole lot more of these incidents to confuse with one another!
To: hosepipe
We shall see. More and more people are awakening to the issue and its implications and it will make a difference.

That's a welcome 180 from the RAT-infested cities that refuse to cooperate at all with INS. If only they could send them back to their home countries, specifically to the furthest point from the US,....

I'm not one hundred percent positive... but I think the position of the Commander of the Connecticut State Police is an appointed position.

Surely some FReepers will remember the days before the Fair Housing Act, and how property owners were free to sell or rent to whomever they wished. This approach effectively delivered the message "Your money is no good here". I'm pointing this out for good cause.
It seems to me there is one way individuals and communities can stem the tide of ILLEGAL immigration. In reading the Fair Housing Act, I see no provision outlawing housing discrimination based on legal status.
Here's the discrimination provisions from the law:
(a) To refuse to sell or rent after the making of a bona fide offer, or to refuse to negotiate for the sale or rental of, or otherwise make unavailable or deny, a dwelling to any person because of race, color, religion, sex, familial status, or national origin.
(b) To discriminate against any person in the terms, conditions, or privileges of sale or rental of a dwelling, or in the provision of services or facilities in connection therewith, because of race, color, religion, sex, familial status, or national origin.
(c) To make, print, or publish, or cause to be made, printed, or published any notice, statement, or advertisement, with respect to the sale or rental of a dwelling that indicates any preference, limitation, or discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin, or an intention to make any such preference, limitation, or discrimination.
(d) To represent to any person because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin that any dwelling is not available for inspection, sale, or rental when such dwelling is in fact so available.
(e) For profit, to induce or attempt to induce any person to sell or rent any dwelling by representations regarding the entry or prospective entry into the neighborhood of a person or persons of a particular race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin.

Unless I'm very wrong, I see no provision that can force anyone to rent housing to anyone not here legally. Very few of these illegal immigrants can survive here without housing, and they cannot purchase housing. Purchasing housing requires they be legal residents.

We should find out---let's gang up and cross their borders in droves and demand benefits----and see what they do about it.
I can hear Vincente now, "Shoot to kill them Americano illegals."

Well well, trespassing no less. Where there's a will...
I'm sure there are some folks(maybe here on FR) that could put together a mailing list of LE, particularly county sheriffs, to help spread the word. As the red areas/states begin to tighten the screws, the blue areas/states should get their just rewards, eh?

Enforcement starts at the top and our president has another agenda. I think someone (read Karl Rove) has told the president that illegal immigration is a win-win situation as far as growth of the Republican Party is concerned- First, he doesn't alienate new prospective citizens (illegals) who might vote for Republicans (I think this is delusional) and second, he maintains friendships with the large campaign donors who hire illegals in their businesses.
The rest of us indirectly pay $5 for a head of lettuce through payroll taxes to support health costs, education costs, law enforcement costs, and infrastructure costs associated with illegal immigration plus the welfare we're already paying the legal residents who won't work for $5/hour.
